Rain Delay Slows Stroman-Senga Duel, Swanson Clutch Defense Saves Cubs 2-1

We may have 3,000 unique visitors to the site in the seven days ending today - well beyond our normal 100-200 unique visitors a day. Our blogs adjusting player cards for the explosion in steals this season, then pieces summary of the season to date showing Statis-Pro is averaging within 0.02 runs per game of the real MLB average were the big hits.

We add a quick update for the last game of the second round through each team's 4-main rotation.

A rain Delay in the 5th inning (Z-play 26) of 48 minutes lowered Marcus Stroman to a PB 2-6 and Kodai Senga to a PB 4-7. Both pitched to a couple of more batters and finished with almost identical outings (5.1 innings, 1 run, 7 strikeouts and 5.2 innings 1 run 7 strikeouts respectively) but neither was around for the decision.

Cubs Matt Mervis homered off Senga to tie the game 1-1 with two outs in the 6th, and Senga left the game with a season ERA of 2.52 for 15th in our league (see previous blog). In the 7th Adam Ottavino walked the wrong batter in Nico Horner, one of the new AA Speed runners, who then stole 2nd base and came home on Cody Bellinger's double.

The Cubs bullpen is a weakness with only one PB 2-7 reliever, but defense saved them. Dansby Swanson saved at least one run when his CD-5 resulted in a diving catch of a would be RBI single in the 8th, then Yan Gomes TA threw out Starling Marte attempting to steal 2nd base in the 9th, and Cubs closer Adbert Alzoley managed to strand a runner at 3rd for a save in a 2-1 Cubs win.

The scoresheet below gives the stats for the 2-game series in the right column.
