Sammy Sosa hit a 2-run homer in the 7th to chase Luis Tiant and tie the game 3-3, then David Ortiz greeted reliever Camilo Pascual with a homer to give the Dominican Republic a 4-3 win and complete a 2-game sweep.
After being shut down by Florida's pitchers for only one run in two losses, the Dominicans won behind three through seven hitters.. Vladimir Guerrero (father of the current star), Manny Ramirez, Sosa, Ortiz and Robinson Cano when 11 of 33 with three homers and two doubles as shown on the scoresheet below.
Sandy Alcantara threw seven scoreless innings allowing only one hit in the 3-0 win, but it was Mario Soto who had the win in relief in the 4-3 win in the second game.

The Dominicans won the first game 3-0, but not until closer Armando Benitez walked the bases loaded in the 9th inning. The fact that we just added whether world players hit and pitched right- or left-handed this week in order to use the Statis-Pro left/right adjustment. With Cuba's Jose Abreu at the plate as a pinch hitter, the Random Number was 11 - which would have been a single last week before we added that both Abreu and Benitez right-handed which mean an 11 would be a strikeout instead of a single.
The 4-3 and 3-0 wins basically clinch the Dominicans advancing to the playoffs and virtually eliminates Cuba as the 4th place team. The only path for Cuba is that all six remaining games go as they need, with Venezuela losing its final four games (to Florida and Cuba) and the Dominicans losing both games to Florida to leave Florida 6-0 and the other three teams all 2-4 AND Cuba would need to finish the season with fewer runs allowed then either Venezuela or the Dominican Republic. This is almost impossible since right now Cuba has allowed the most runs of any team in our league - 18 - while the Dominicans have allowed only 8 and Venezuela only 6. Therefore, Cuba needs Florida to score well over 10 runs against either Venezuela or the Dominicans to give them a chance.
