Puerto Rico Bats 0.314 to Stuns Pennsylvania with Sweep

Puerto Rico Stuns Pennsylvania with Sweep. Developing.

All Statis-Pro World Baseball cards are now on this one file. The batters, then pitchers, then pitchers at bat for each nation or state appear together for each of the 12 teams. After years of free handing scoresheets, we tried doing it with an actual scoresheet.

Here is the second game of the two game series. This one came down to the last flip of a card. In the 9th inning and Puerto Rico leading 5-4, Honus Wagner stole second base with the tying run. Ken Griffey Jr. then hit a deep drive that would result in a walk off homer if it was 11-35, or be caught for a deep drive to end the game with a win for Puerto Rico if it was caught on a 36-88. A "74" resulted in a catch.

Puerto Rico, with excellent hitting but mediocre pitching compared to the other teams, is now 4-0 while Pennsylvania is 2-2 but still has the best shot at the second place playoff spot.

This one slipped away on one error. Mike Musina only gave up one earned run in six innings, and started a third inning rally with a double. Later in the inning Stan Musial and Reggie Jackson hit back-to-back home runs to make it 4-1 Pennsylvania after four innings. However, in the top of the 5th an error on a grounder by Jose Cruz that would have ended the inning with the score still 4-1 was followed by a double by Roberto Clemente, single by Cepeda and then single from Francisco Lindor to end a 4-run inning and the 5-4 lead held.

Pennsylvania had stolen based to put runners in scoring position in the 7th, 8th and 9th innings, but could not get the run across.

The first game was a 5-2 Puerto Rico win without a single extra base hit - but had 12 singles in the win.

The composite box score is at the bottom below the picture of the layout.

Here is the 2-game box score.

Here is the combined box score for the two games.
