After catching up on the current rosters, we returned to our all-time World Baseball Classic Plan. Nolan Ryan won the division clincher to propel Texas to join Puerto Rico for two of the four spots in the championship pool with a 9-4 win. Ryan allowed three runs in 6 1/3 innings. When California loaded the bases in the top of the 7th a current Houston Astro Ryan Pressly induced an inning ending double play grounder from the only non-Hall of Fame California hitter Graig Nettles, who had homered his previous at bats.

In a game of Hall of Famers against Hall of Famers, Texas jumped on California's starter Bob Lemon for 10 hits and 8 runs - despite the fact that Lemon has the highest SR in the game at 25 so was still pitching at his full strength as a PB 2-8 the whole way. California should still make the playoffs, but Texas joins Roberto Clemente and Puerto Rico in getting the buy for winning their division, while three teams are still alive in the South for the final spot (Dominican Republic, Venezuela and Florida).
If California were to give up 9 runs or more in a second straight game against Texas, they fall below Asia and be eliminated as the 4th place team in the Pacific. If they lose while allowing eight or fewer runs, then they would finish third and face the third place team in the South in a one-game play-in to make the preliminary round. If they beat Texas in the finale, they would finish second and go into the preliminary playoff round of four teams to try to earn the final spot and join Texas and Puerto Rico in the championship round.

In the second game Lefty Gomez came through with 7 innings of shutout pitching in a 2-0 California win. This puts California in the 4-team first playoff pool. Only one of those Four teams will advance to the championship pool with Texas, Puerto Rico and one other team. California finished 2nd place based on runs allowed - as they allowed 17 runs to 25 runs allowed by Central America, since both were 3-3 and split their series as the first tie-breaker. Joe DiMaggio hit the game-winning home run in the second inning.
