All 40-man Rosters Matched On Updated Google Sheet (new Reds play all 3 NL East leaders)

We matched up all 30 teams 40-man rosters, as well as players on the 60-day DL (who do not appear on the 40-man roster), and found 16 pitchers and 40 batters we needed to move from one team to another. Here is the updated Statis-Pro projected cards if you want to check our roster to see if you have players on the right team or make a card for a new player who does not have a printed card. Our recommendation is the get printed cards here and then pick whichever card in the last three years is closest to the projection on this sheet if a player is having a great or terrible year.

(see note at bottom for latest games, with Braves moving into first in NL East)

We ranked the 16 batters in order, mainly based on the OPS their Statis-Pro card should produce over time - but moving strong baserunners and fielders like lightning fast Jarrod Dyson and Billy Hamilton up. The top late pickup in the game is the Phillies pickup of Corey Dickerson from the Rays. He is a cleanup type hitter with home runs on 32 to 36 (5 of 64 numbers) and enough walks to generate a .796 OPS. He also has the strongest arm possible (T5) and is an excellent overall Leftfielder (CD4 puts him behind only a few CD5s). Dyson and Hamilton have two of the seven On Base Running A and Speed (base stealing) AA to give incredible pinch runners and defensive replacements despite lighter bats.

The 40 pitchers who moved are ranked mainly by ERA, though starters are moved ahead of relievers because they are more valuable for more innings. Therefore the two relievers with a projected ERA low enough to get a PB: 2-8 (we play PB: 2-9 is the best while some play PB: 2-10) therefore rank second and third behind Zack Godley - who can give many more innings with the next best and above-average PB: 2-7.

The the Braves, Phillies and Nats all tied in 1st at 34-26, we put them against the Reds - and their newer cards for former Indian Bauer, former Blue Jay Galvis, and rookie phenom Aquino. If not for a collision between Aquina and Winkler to cost them a game against the Phillies, the Reds would have gone 9-9 against the three. Instead, they went even against the Nats and Phils and the Braves took a 4 games to 2 edge to move into first at 38-28.

Rays Eliminate BoSox; "Illegal' August waiver pickups

The 7-6 Rays made the AL wild card game 6-1 in a battle of two great lefties (Snell vs. BoSox Sale) who are injured in real MLB play but on eligible for Statis-Pro games against 2 lefty heavy line-ups. The 5-run cushion also saved Ace Charlie Morton for a wild card start against the 7-5 Twins' weaker pitching as well as have closer Jose Alvarado if they lead late. (See photo of score sheet at bottom).

The winner of that wild card game will face the 9-3 Indians, who have Kluber and Carrasco since our league is a "what if no injuries" league. The other best-of-seven will feature the Astros and Yankees, both 7-5. Last year the BoSox joined those 3 in all finishing between 38-22 and 36-24, but in odd number years we play the long NL season.

We still have a ways to go in that NL Statis-Pro season, where the Cubs finally ended the Dodgers 17-game win streak.

We thought we had pretty much final Statis-Pro player cards as of the deadline to play out the rest of the season, because we were told there would be no waiver trades in August this year. Well, not sure of the logistics, but there have been a number of waiver pick-ups, so we are in the process of moving the following players on the Master Player Card sheet here (which now includes how to play as well as letting you find produce cards for players you don't have). We usually take the players Statis-pro card of the last 3 years closest to his current OPS - so Mookie Betts is great but doesn't get the ridiculous 2018 card.

How to score-record baseball easily (e.g. Dodgers vs. Cubs series)

One of the most visited posts details the quickest and easiest way to score series of baseball board games. The best two NL teams in my simulated "what if noone were injured" season just played and I'll walk through scoring this two game series. Dodgers extended to actual 17 game win streak (see all results here) before Cubs broke it in second game. (Click
http://www.pudnersports.com/2018/05/basic-statis-pro-basic-game-learn-and.html?m=1 to play.

Starting pitchers - note I threw Buehler - (1) means he has the best starting pitcher card of any Dodger, then in the second game Hill (4) - their 4th best pitcher.

In the first game that gave the Dodgers the edge over the Cubs 3rd best starting pitching card - Quintana (3) - but gave the Cubs the pitching edge in the 2nd game - Darvish (2).

In Statis-pro a pitcher's endurance is lessened by 1 every time he allows a runner to 1st on a hit, walk or hit by pitch, any time and earned run scored, and at the end of every inning. Other games have similar ways to track endurance.

After the last batter of every inning, I write a line and then a small number to show how much endurance is used up. When Pederson grounded out to end the 1st inning (6-3 for grounder shortstop to first) a small "3" appears since 2 singles and the inning ended used up 3 of Quintana's his 12 SR endurance, but by the end of the 2nd he used up 14 and had to leave trailing 4-0.

Relief pitching - to make keeping track of who is fresh in the pen easy, I let each team use any reliever they want in the opener with the idea their best reliever would pitch the 9th for a save, second best pitch the 8th for a hold etc. I used to try to track who had pitched in previous series etc - but this let's me keep it all on this one sheet. You can relieve either until the end of an inning or for up to 4 batters - but only in one of two games.

Since Quintana left after 2 IP I went with the Cubs' 7th best relief card in Cishek for the 3rd inning, the 6th best in Cedeno for the 4th etc, but when they were down 6-1 after 6 innings I went to lesser pitchers to save their best 3 for the second game.

Buehler went 7 innings, and I did use their second best relief card in Joe Kelly for the 8th just because I play a run that counts 5 run leads after 8 innings as a 3 game sweep, but if just playing normal rules you would use a lesser pitcher, as I did in the 9th since I play you can't use your best reliever available to get credit for a 5-run sweep BUT you also can't lose credit for a sweep in the 9th.

Once the 7-2 win was over I write the best pitchers available for the second game, so the dodgers had Jansen (for the 9th), Alexander (8)* Stripling (7), Ferguson (6), and a much worse pitching card in Sborz if Darvish did not last 5 innings. The Cubs had their top three available and noted in the bottom Kimbrel (9), Strop (8), and Morrow (7), and saving them in the first game loss proved crucial in winning the second game 2-1 with each of them pitching an inning after Darvish shutout ended with Muncy hitting his 3rd Homer of the series to start the 7th.

For Statis-pro players only I showed the last 2  actualbfast action cards revealed - a PB 12 being the worst possible for a pitcher to leave the ball outside Jansen's excellent PB 2-8 range, then the 26 random number falling in Contrera's home run range.

The other thing I like about this set up is I only write out the lineup once, down the left side of the page, and then I just write any changes in the lineup for game 2 in the middle. I also leave enough room to write in pinch hitters and in which at bat they entered. So Gyorka started at 2nd base and hit 7th for the Dodgers in Game 1, Hernandez (3) pinch hit on his 3rd at bat and then also was the starter for the second game.

Since there are more substitutions for the pitcher's spot in NL games I actually leave an extra spot. In game 1, Tony Kemp (1) pinch hit the first time the pitcher's spot came up, then Caratini (2), then Castellano  (3) walked and Russell (3-pr) came in for him as a pinch runner. One other difference in the way I play 5-run sweeps is that I had Russell try to steal to get in scoring position as the last chance to cut the lead to 4 by the end of the 8th, and he was thrown out. Obviously, if not for my 5-run sweep rule he would have stayed on first to hope for the big rally.

As for the actually play-by-play recording, everyone has their own style, but I simply draw the line to the base a player is on, so that a completed diamond is easily spotted as a run scored. I do have a few quirks that aren't exactly accurate as you would score on an official scorebook. For example:

1) on Contrera's first at bat he grounded to short and Happ was thrown out but he was safe. Really you would put an FC by contreras while drawing the line for him making it to 1st and a 6-4 by Happ going from 1st to 2nd, but I just put the 6-4 by the player who hit the ball, Contreras.

2) note the S9 by seager's 4th at bat to indicate Pederson went from 2nd to 3rd on his deep drive. Note that a batter does not really get credit for a sac fly unless a runner scores from 3rd, but in reviewing I know it wasn't really a sac fly because he dies not have a small "1" for an rbi in the upper right of his batting result but it let's lets me remember that is how Pederson made it to 3rd.

3) also note Pederson has a "2b5" on his last at bat of the first game which in real scoring would mean a double that the third baseman fielded. Actually in statis pro games I play their are some plays that are Clutch Fielding (cd) which means a position player has a chance to make a great play. In this case the third baseman Bryant had a chance at a hard grounder down the line but let it get past for a double - so it would really be scored a 2b7 since the leftfielder would field the double, and my 2b5 actually reminds me the third baseman missed it.

For Statis-pro players only, the little marks under the line score (t68, b65, r81, r38) is just be recording the first random number on each of the 4 sides of the fast action cards to make sure I never mess up in rotating, which usually gets me through a two game series in one shuffle.

I'm assuming anyone who read this far already knows that in scoring 1=pitcher, 2=catcher, 3 = 1st baseman, 4=2nd baseman, 5=3rd baseman, 6 = shortstop,  7 = left fielder, 8 = center fielder and 9 = rightfielder both by each player in both lineups and in recording who field the ball on each play.

Because the Dodgers received credit for a 3 games to 0 sweep for the 7-2 win and the Cubs received credit for a 2 games to 1 edge for the 9th inning 2-1 walk off in the second game, the Dodgers win the series 4 games to 2 games.

That makes the Dodgers Statis-pro best 41-19 record, and the Cubs keep the NL Central best 34-26.

Right now the one difference in the playoffs between the Statis-pro season and actual MLB season is that the Phillies would make the playoffs and the Cardinals would not.

Right now the NL East Nationals, Braves and Phillies are virtually tied and would claim the division plus both wild card spots in statis pro.
The Phillies are better in Statis-pro because we ignore injuries so McCutchen and their top 3 relievers are used in Statis-pro.

However, the Cardinals have been my hottest team since starting 6-18, winning two thirds of their games since to get to 30-30 and within a couple of games of the NL East teams.

My AL Statis-pro season is over, and the Red Sox and Rays will have a one game playoff, and if the Rays win it would be the same 5 playoff teams as if thr MLB season ended today.

The Astros and Yankees won the Statis-pro wewt and east and seem to have those MLB titles in hand.

The Indians are better in Statis-pro due to great starting pitching cards for Carrasco and Kluber being used despite their long injuries in MLB. In MLB, they would make the wild card but are a couple of games behind the twins for the division, but in statis pro they finished tow games ahead of the twins, so twins will host the wild card statispro game.

(AL Playoffs Now Set) 162nd Game: Twins Seek Statis-Pro Playoffs vs. Reds’ Bauer, Aquino’s Home Run Range of 23-52

New Note August 17, 2019: Last season's AL Statis-Pro playoffs featured the Indians, Astros, Yankees and Red Sox - which all finished between 38-22 and 36-24 - and the stunning White Sox who snuck ahead of the rest for the last spot before losing to the Red Sox in the wild card game.

This year we are playing the big season in the NL, which dominated the AL 100-77 with only 3 games left between the Padres and A's. The same Big 4 AL teams are back in the playoffs in our mini 12-game standings from the AL from interleague play - where the NL Dominated 100-77 with only 3 games left between the Padres and A's (who are eliminated). Only 3 AL Teams had winning records in those series leaving these playoffs:

Tampa Bay Rays (6-6) vs. Boston Red Sox (6-6) in one game, with winner at Minnesota Twins (7-5) in one game for wild card.

Wild Card Winner vs. Cleveland Indians (9-3 - with Kluber and Carrasco as opposed to real season) Best of 7

Houston Astros (7-5) vs. New York Yankees (7-5) in best of 7

OK, I’m just kidding on the HR Range. The actual Statis-Pro card for the Reds’ replacement for Puig if you calculated it for Aristides Aquino - would yield a home run range of 23-52.

This means he would hit a home run about three out of every eight times the pitcher failed to control the action. However, we actually use projected OPS for simple Statis-Pro cards for late Statis-Pro cards – and the Rotoworld .792 OPS (as opposed to his actual 1.454) yields a home run range of 26-33.

That yields a great 161st game of the Statis-Pro season where Aquino – the player who replaced Puig in the line-up – starts behind Trevor Bauer who replaced Puig on the roster at the trade deadline.

In odd years I play a robust NL season, but do have each AL team ranked based on their record in interleague games.

After the AL dominated my Statis-Pro All-Star game, I was surprised to realize the NL actually has a 87-69 edge over the AL in my Statis-Pro season this year, only to discover that in the actual MLB the NL held a 119-101 edge this year and actually broke the AL's long run with a 157-143 edge last year.

While some who play Statis-Pro (or other board games) replay an entire 162-game schedule for a particular team, I am actually hitting my 161st and 162nd Statis-Pro games this year for all teams with a series between the surprising 1st place Twins and the Reds, who now feature the most exciting story of the past two weeks - Aristides Aquino.

Baring a stunning outburst by the Angels or Athletics in their final series, the Twins can catch the Indians for my Statis-Pro AL Central title with a mark of 5-1 or 6-0 (see this blog on how each game counts as three). If they go 1-5 or 0-6 they miss out on the playoffs completely, leaving the Rays and Red Sox to battle it out. While both teams are further down in my simple power rankings of their current projected Statis-Pro cards, the fact that the Reds' Bauer (top 15% of all pitchers as a PB: 2-8) will face Michael Pineda (exactly average PB: 4-7) and the Reds' Sonny Gray (top 35% as PB: 2-7) will face Martin Perez (below average PB: 2-6) gives the Reds' the pitching edge in both games to give the Twins a tough two games.

Anything in between – from 2-4 to 4-2 – means the Twins are in the wild card mix with the Rays and Red Sox, either hosting the winner of a playoff game between those two or in a 3-way tie.

In summary, the very likely AL playoffs:

Yankees 7-5 vs. Astros 7-5
Indians 9-3 vs. wild card winner from among Twins 4-2, Rays 6-6 and Red Sox 6-6

Other scenarios:

Twins catch Indians for division by going 5-1 then winning one-game playoff with Indians OR go 6-0
Twins go 1-5 to fall behind Rays and Red Sox and miss playoff completely
Angels or Athletics go 5-1 or 6-0 to get in Wild Card mix.

Bigger NL Statis-Pro Season

This is actually my year to play off the entire NL season, so they have a much longer season and account for most of the 160 games played entering the final interleague Statis-Pro series.

As for the Reds, they can get to .500 by winning the series and hope that the additions of Aquino and Bauer give them a shot to make the Statis-Pro NL playoffs, which will play out for a while. Here are the standings heading into that series, which are updated with short summaries on all 162 game plus on this google sheet.

Additional note - Twins did clinch the playoffs in an incredible pitchers duel in which aces Pineda and Bauer both went 8 IP with a combined 21 strikeouts, no walks, and 1 run allowed for each. Twins won in the 10th when Dywon doubled home pinch runner Gordon. Reds win the nightcap 5-1 to go to 26-28.

Astros Nudge Ahead of Dodgers, Yanks After Deadline Based on Statis-Pro Cards

The Yankees and Dodgers were tied for first with the Yankees based on projected Statis-Pro baseball player cards last month, but the Astros shot up from 5th to 1st with the addition of Zack Greinke and the Indians made an even bigger jump from 11th to 4th with all their trade deadline pick-ups.

We based these projections based on the stats that would be generated by the projected Statis-Pro cards if the random numbers came up exactly even over the course of a season (game can be played by clicking here or reading top of google doc of player cards. We factor the following:

OPS of top 8 in line-up is 40% of the rating, with the Dodgers easily first with a projected .838 after the addition of Will Smith at catcher (his quick projected card gives him a Home Run range of 26-32 for his .750 projected OPS). The Astros are a distant second at .818, and the Cubs third at .809.

ERA of top 4 starters is weighted 20%, and the Nationals are first at 3.49. The Indians are second but that includes Carrasco and Kluber who are injured, meaning the third best Astros are actually just behind the Nationals with the addition of Greinke based on who is actually pitching now.

ERA of the top 6 relievers is weighted 10%, and the Brewers overused bullpen is first again, with the Indians 2nd and the Astros 3rd.

Another 10 percent is for OBR/SP, which is the On Base Running Ability to take extra bases and beat out grounders, and the Speed to steal bases, show the Rockies are the bet, Indians second and Astros third.

The Clutch Defense is 20% for the ability to rob hits in the field, and the Giants are first, followed by the Cardinals and then Padres.

While we are playing the NL season this year, we plan to go through another round of interleague games next to get a look at every team's final roster. If you do not use google docs, you can click here for an image of the cards for all 30 teams.

Angels to Braves: Statis-Pro Cards for All Players and Rules for Game

To play Statis-Pro baseball simply follow these steps:

Step 1 – Print out sheets for two teams. You can open this google doc of all players and print out the two teams you want to play (best to define the cells and "print selection" to fit the whole team on one landscape piece of paper). However, because some people do not use google docs, you can also choose from the 5 teams below or on any of the other blogs at www.pudnersports.com and click on each team you want to print out.

Step 2 - Write your lineups and starting pitchers on a piece of paper -  column E gives the suggested batting order (1 through 9) and suggested starting pitching rotation (21-24) but you can choose any other order you want.

Step 3 - Roll two 6-sided dice or flip Fast Action Card for a result of 2 to 12 - if it falls in the pitcher's control range (column l) then the result will be on his card, if not it will be on the batter's card - pitcher at bat is always on his card.

Step 4 - Roll two 8-sided dice or flip Fast Action Card for result of 11-88, and look up result under pitcher's card (1b single, BK balk, K, W, WP, PB or Out) or batters card (1b, 2b, 3b, HR, K, W, HPB, Out).

Step 5 - To steal use second letter of OBR/SP in column J and roll one 6-sided die. Only out on a 6, but unable to steal except AA steals on 1-4, A on 1-3, B on 1-2 and C on 1. Runner on base takes extra base on hit using 2nd letter (with 2 outs 4=extra base)

Step 6 - for updates see www.pudnersports.com and for fielding and more advanced rules, click here.

Step 7 -steps 1 to 6 are all the cool free stuff to play and see if you like the game - another person sells really neat cards for great teams from throughout history and a baord setup - join his Statis-Pro Advanced Facebook page.
