Strider Looks Like Cy Young, Braves Take 10 Innings to Win

Ultimate pitchers duel as Spencer Strider looked like the Cy Young favorite with 8 scoreless innings. However, the neither team scored until Sean Murphy hit a 10th inning homer and the Braves won 3-2.

It looked at first that this might be an incredibly tough loss when I left Strider in for the 9th inning despite him being reduced from a PB 2-9 to a PB 2-7 and he finally gave up a double to Franmil Reyes to star the nine. If that run had scored, he would have been tagged with a loss despite allowing only on hit in the previous 25 batters faced. Luckily for the Braves, AJ Minter retired three in a row, the last two by strikeout, to force extra innings.

The surprise was that Justin Steele, the Cubs ace in the game but only an average PB4-7, allowed only one run in his seven innings. the Cubs one true stopper, closer Adbert Alzolay, had pitched a 1-2-3 ninth and normally I only let relievers pitch one inning typically, unless they enter the game in the 9th inning or later.

Reminder Note: To play our own Statis-Pro Baseball games, click and print the batters cards here, then these pitchers' cards and finally the Statis-Pro rules which will have everything you need to play. Also note that we had one error in earlier notes - the adjustments listed at the bottom of some pitcher cards to the batters they face (changing a HR to Out or vice versa) must be used every time they pitch, not just in road games as previously listed. You may notice this season that our blogs are picked up by https://www.baseball-reference.com/ so when a player is mentioned you can link for their stats by clicking.
