Mourning-Mutombo Overcome Edey's 25 Pts, 11 Reb in Battle of Giants

Much like the 2024 title game, Zach Edey dominated (25 points, 11 rebounds, 7 blocked shots and drew 5 fouls on Alonzo Mourning) but got little help from his teammates (9 players combined for 35 points, 20 rebounds, 1 block).

It was five future NBA players against one, as Charles SmithJaren JacksonJohn Turner and of course the 6'10 Alonzo Mourning and 7'2 Dikembe Mutombo were up against the 7'4 Edey.

Good luck getting to the rim on either end of the court with the 7'4 Edey protecting one rim or two of the greatest shot blockers of all time, Edey and Dikembe Mutombo at the other end waiting to give you the finger wag.

However, point guard Charles Smith scored 8 two-point buckets and distributed to help set up many of the 31 overall 2-point buckets in the Hoyas 83-70 win to move the tournaments Elite 8 where they can get revenge against Duke.

This 1989 Georgetown team was ranked #2 at the beginning and end of the season but ran into Duke in the Elite 8 and lost. Their next Value Add Basketball Game will be an all-time Elite 8 match-up against the 2015 Duke team.

The winner of that game will face either 1-seed UConn 2023, or the winner of the last remaining Sweet 16 game between Wes Unseld's 1968 Louisville team against Kevin Love and Russell Westbrook's 2008 UCLA team.

Here is the updated bracket followed by the scoresheet. The remaining 9 teams are the only undefeated of the 240 all-time great teams in the game except for the winners of our first teo tournaments - the 1972 UCLA and 1997 Kansas team.

And the scoresheet.
