Perhaps the Kansas 2002 champs didn't like our preview suggesting this might be an upset alert against the 4 NBA players on the 2017 SMU team.
The 1997 and 2008 Kansas champs already rank in our top 10 teams of all time, but we viewed this 2022 edition as well as the 1988 as not so dominant champs ranked much further down. The same with our 5th Kansas team in the game, Wilt Chamberlain's 1957 squad.
However, Kansas led by double digits most of the way - showing their balance as shown on the scoresheet with four players scoring 10 to 15 points int he win.
SMU actually had the top 3 scorers in the game, but only 13 points total from the rest of the team as they really only run 6 players.
The dunk range measuring items like team defense and level of competition was the huge edge, with Kansas getting an automatic dunk on 51-63 while SMU playing lighter competition including only one ranked opponent did not have any dunks and thus all rolls of 51-66 went to the 20-sided die for a shot or foul drawn.
