Winslow's Duke Blows Out Miami to Surge to 36th All-Time; Face 29th Houston

Duke 2015 dropped to the #13 seed in our current tournament due to barely surviving upsets in their first two games - a 75-73 win over Tyler Kolek's recent Marquette team and a 75-72 win over the 19-13 Nebraska 2014 team that made the school's first NCAA tournament in 16 years but lost in the opening round.

However, in their third game Duke's unstoppable trio of Justise Winslow (19 points, 7 rebounds, 3 steals), Jahlil Okafor (19, 9, 2) and Tyrus Jones (18, 2, 3) dominated Miami 2023 to win going away 90-64.

This Duke team is scary good. We weight tournament performances heavier than regular season games, because players who dominate in March Madness are just better than a team that beats weak teams by 40 instead of by 20 to beef up their stats. Like the 2023 UConn team that is the top seed in this tournament, this team looked beatable early in the season before rolling through the six tournament games by an average of 16 points a game to take the title.

Like the Duke team, the 2023 Miami squad pulled two narrow wins as well but in their case they were both upsets, winning a wild 99-98 win over the 2006 Washington squad and 78-77 over the K-State quad from the same 2023 season to advance but were outmatched by Duke. Miami's backcourt of Nijel Pack and Isaiah Wong both hit multiple 3-pointers to combine for 31 points - but the front line was dominated in the loss. .

Some interesting notes on the rotations and starting scores on the Duke 2015 vs. Miami 2015 game.

We did not list the 1-5 die rolls on some of the Duke cards, but the 1-5 on the top line are always in order once all five starters (the top 5) are in order. We also had not printed suggested rotations on the cards, but you base these on the Stamina and are always free to come up with your own rotation even if some are recommended.

Just be sure to note the changes to a card once the players Stamina has run out. For example, Marshall Plumlee already had an incredible card that enabled him to either score or draw a foul on 1-16 on the 20-sided die BUT he could only keep this up for 5 possessions (his Stamina). Keep in mind the Stamina adjustment means that if you leave him in for a 6th possession then every die roll is adjusted by 1 against him, then once he has more than doubled his Stamina (11th possession) every roll is adjusted by 2 against him etc. So if you left him in then by his 11th possession his 2-pt field goals made is 1-9 instead of 1-11, his foul drawn is 10-14 instead of 12-16), Defensive Rebound is 1-2 instead of 1-4, Defense goes form +0 to +2 to allow his opponents ranges to improve by 2.

We just take the player out at his final - in this case 5th possession - to have him play the 44th to 40th possession as marked, but if a player fouls out then you may need to put a tired player back in the game. However, if a game goes to overtime disregard assuming all players and the player guarding them is tired.

Here is the scoresheet.

The only three games left to get us down to the Sweet 16 in this tournament feature 5 teams from the last few years, and the 2017 SMU team.

UNC 2022 is a 9-point favorite over Xavier 2023, but the other four remaining teams are all within 2 points of each other.

Kansas 2022 vs. SMU 2017

Texas 2023 vs Gonzaga 2023
