We unveiled the new Statis-Pro ballpark factors for an expanded use of the DEEP drives on the batters cards. While that chart gives you the ranges to use on the 11-88 Random Number after a reading of DEEP, we also need to adjust the player cards for players who benefitted or were hurt by a pitcher or hitter park. The batters cards recently calculated (click here) are NOT yet adjusted.
For players on 14 of the 30 teams, the ballpark adjustment is not big enough to adjust the card calculated using the normal Statis-pro formulas. However, the chart below shows the stadiums that merit adjustments.
If a player's home park is relatively neutral, then a batter will have "no change" and the actual ERA or FIP of a pitcher in a park with a "1.00" in the column to the right then no change is made - which is the case with the Angels and Astros (yes Minute Made park gives very cheap homers on balls lofted down the left field line, but overall the park actually does not favor batters.
However, an Athletics batter would have a home run added (+1 HR) after the card is calculated and a Blues Jays batter would have a home run subtracted (-1 HR). If a Blue Jays player did not get to play half his games in the Rogers Centre, he would have about one fewer homers and his card, whereas an Athletics batter would have about one more HR number if he did not need to play half his games in the Oakland Coliseum.
The opposite is true of pitchers of course. An A's pitcher who benefits from half of his games being played in the Coliseum must multiply his ERA by 1.12 to show about what it would be if all games were in a neutral park, and a Blue Jays pitcher multiplies ERA by 0.88 to show what his ERA would be if he pitched all his games in a neutral park. This ERA adjustment is a precise measurement of how much the ERA would be impacted with every opposing batter's having their card adjusted as shown by that team - so A's pitchers are adjusted WORSE by the exact same Runs Created value of how much their batters are HELPED by the adjustment.
Here are the numbers.
