Tennessee Cards Fixed Before Match-Up with Larkins Son and Miami

Shane Larkin scored 27 points to keep Miami 2013 ahead for most of the game, but Tennessee had too many weapons. Five Vols finished in double figures for a 75-67 win with a late rally and the Vols improved from 66th to 46th on our All-Time great teams list in the rankings tracked here. The box score is at the bottom of this blog. The pre game notes are below as well as an image of all player cards. At the very bottom we list the rankings of only the teams playing in our third tournament.

One reason we want to get through all teams once in the game is in case of any mistakes in the cards, and we found the biggest one yet when we pulled up Tennessee's 2023 team. We had made a mark on the actual cards that four of the five backup cards needed to be fixed - and they all needed to be calculated. However, for some reason we had accidentally listed Santiago Vescovi as both the starting shooting guard and point guard, so he had two cards and Julian Phillips had none. That is now fixed.

With the cards set we put them up against their first opponent, Miami and Shane Larkin, son of baseball great Barry Larkin.

Both teams had great seasons (10 years apart) but loss with point guard issues. Larkin was sick and no where near 100% when Miami was upset by Marquette in 2013. the Vols Zakal Zeigler was injured at the end of the season, forcing them to move everyone over one spot for the tournament - Vecovi from shooting guard to point guard, Tyreke Key from small forward to shooting guard. Because Miami only has nine players, the two points and one rebound the missing backup would have gotten to start the game goes to the Hurricanes top scorer - Larkin - who starts the game with 4 points, two rebounds and one score.

Now the get a chance to play each other with both point guards at full strength.
