After homers and triples in the first few innings for both teams, it came down to the speed of the Blue Jays pinch runner Myles Straw, who stole 2nd and 3rd base before scoring the game-winning run in the 8th inning of a 3-2 win over the Mets.
Pete Alonso benefitted from the in season "add 2 HR" which turned the 33 random number from a strikeout to. Deep drive, and then a 16 was easily within the Rogers Centre 11-43 home run range on deep drives.
In the bottom of the first Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Led off with a home to make ot 1-1, and Anthony Santander would have had a deep drive to potentially start the game with back to back homers except that his minus 2 home runs adjustment changed the 32 from a deep drive to a strike out. The Cubs would need to beat deGrom in the next game to be the only NL team to start 4-1 besides the Padres, but each NL team's 6th start will feature their ace against an AL team's No. 4 starter to flip the Game 5 advantage the AL teams had.
