After the Astros won a close one in Houston with ace Hunter Brown on the mound against the Reds No. 4 starter, it was the Reds now All-Star ace Andrew Abbott (now a PB 2-8 as one of the top 15% of all pitchers - meaning a projected ERA around 3.00) for a 3-1 Reds win at home.
However the big surprise came in the 3rd inning, when both the Astros Jeremy Peña and then the Reds Christian Encarnacion-Strand launched deep drives that result in homers 75% of the time (11-68 of 11-88 random number) at the Great American Park but both were caught - including the poor fielding Yordan Alvarez reaching over the left field fence on a "71" that was as close as you can have to a homer there. Alvarez is now playing left field in our game despite an E9, CD1 fielding rating because during his injury Isaac Paredes has hit great as DH so we leave him in the the line-up as the cleanup hitter behind Alvarez.
Elly De La Cruz continued to look like the MVP of our NL Statis-Pro season with two doubles and then a steal of third and the other time moving up to 3rd on a fly ball, but the Reds could not get him home either time. For the first time in six games we did not give him the Reds player of the game award, as TJ Friedl hit a walkoff homer for the 3-1 win to follow-up on an early single. Often more runs can be scored in the 2nd game because the top relievers pitched in the first game of the series (we only allow relievers to pitch once in the 2-game series) which meant that Astros All-Star closer Josh Hader and both of their PB 2-8 relievers (Bennett Susa and Bryan Abreu) were not available in the 9th inning and it was PB 2-7 (still above average) Bryan King who was the loser. Prior to giving up Friedl's homer yielded a single to Austin Hays and then Blake Dunn came in to pinch run, stole second and then scored the game-winning run trotting home on the game-winning homer.
