The following is and expanded set of unusual Z-Plays for Statis-Pro Baseball. This was always a fun part of the game since the first blue chart I still have in my 1978 game. However, I will be using this chart. If you use Fast Action Cards you know a "Z" can appear by the PB: instead of a 2 to 12 - thus putting the 11-88 random number on this chart instead of the batter or pitcher card.
If you are using dice, our game calls for the Z-Chart to be used if the 20-sided die comes up as a "20" AND at least one of the two 6-sided dice comes up as a "6." Part of the fun of this great chart - put together by a reader who did not want credit. For example, I didn't know that if anything but the glove or hand was used on a catch it was not a catch. He lets the outfielder get away with it in this game, but if plays like that are too crazy for your taste, you can just record it as an F8.not and if so go with the results.

Unusual Plays with Bases Empty
11: Catcher faces up with ump to argue balls and strikes; ump ejects him.
12: Pitcher thinks umpire is “squeezing” his strike zone. Ump responds by tossing pitcher out. For new pitcher, reduce PB rate one for that batter only.
13: Batter argues with ump about strike calls; ump ejects batter for disrespect. Increase pitcher’s PB rate one for next batter only.
14: Batter hits slow roller to first. Pitcher covers, but runner called safe on close play. Dust begins to fly and someone tosses a hat, hitting first base ump. Pick a new random number: 11-58 pitcher ejected, 61-78 first baseman ejected, 81-88 both are tossed. (Pudner note: yes, modern replays might stop this from happening BUT we still use these plays are intended to get backups in the game since otherwise we would never need to rest starters).
15: Batter hits ball down line. If Home team at bat, 11-54 indicates a home run, 55-88, foul ball. If Visiting team, 11-25 is home run, 26-88 foul ball.
16: Pitcher is caught tossing spitball; ump ejects him. League suspends the pitcher for 5 games.
17: Pitcher begins cursing ump while approaching the plate. Batter awarded first with base on balls. Pitcher warned.
18: Batter pops up to short, but bat breaks, revealing cork. Ump ejects batter; league suspends batter for 5 games. (Pudner note: in our league we allow no injury or suspension to last more than the 2-game series, but your league rules can follow of course 😊.
21: Ump rules pitcher failed to deliver pitch in time. Batter awarded first.
22: Batter hits homer and dances the nasty dance in celebration, but ruptures Achilles in doing so. Pinch runner finishes bases. Use injury chart (Pudner note, in our league we just have all injuries last for the 2-game series).
23: Slow dribbler hit down 3rd base line. Third baseman uses glove to fan the ball foul. Interference ruled; batter given base.
24: Batter gets single, but ump rules batter out due to more than 18 inches of pine tar on bat. Batter tossed for this game only.
25: Third strike, but catcher drops ball. Batter gets to first before the throw.
26: Gorgeous female fan in RF stands distracts right fielder when she tears off shirt and bra and gyrates an exotic dance. Batter gets double; right fielder gets date.
27: Batter hits a liner back at pitcher. The ball caroms off pitcher’s stomach back towards the plate. Catcher throws out batter at first, 1-2-3.
28: Batter swings at obvious two-strike pitch in the dirt. Pitcher gets strikeout, but batter makes it to first on wild pitch.
31: Batter doubles to right but misses first base. Ump rules out on appeal.
32: Catcher drops third strike for error. Batter safe at first.
33: Batter singles to right but tries to stretch for double. Right fielder throws to second base and picks runner off, 9-4.
34: Batter hits a grounder towards pitcher. It caroms off the pitcher toward third. Shortstop picks up ball and throws to first for the putout. Score play 1-6-3.
35: Batter checks swing, hits slow roller to first but runs into ball. Batter gets credit for single yet ruled out (putout to catcher).
36: Batter called out on strikes. Batter argues check swing. Batter and batting team manager ejected after melee ensues.
37: Foul ball hit near stands. If Home team in field, third baseman catches ball, batter out. If visiting team in field, fans rob third baseman of ball. Ump calls Interference on random numbers. 11-41, batter out; 42-88, foul ball and angry third baseman tossed for kicking dirt on third-base ump.
38: Fan reaches out of stands on foul ball down right field line. With new random number, 11-28, interference, batter out (putout to first). 31-88, drops ball foul.
41: Batter doubles to left field. Throw from left fielder to second baseman is wild. Batter scores on error.
42: Second baseman fields a grounder in awkward position. He tosses ball to the shortstop who gets runner at first. Incredible play for the second baseman.
43: Batter hits single to left but attempts to stretch to double. Left fielder throws the ball into the infield where a rundown occurs. Five players touch the ball with the catcher credited for the putout at second. (9-3-6-4-3-4-6-2).
44: Batter singles to RF; right fielder misses the ball for an error, allowing batter to reach second. Center fielder throws ball back in. Batter called out on appeal for missing first base. Score play 8-4-6-3.
45: Batter hits single to LF. Pitcher then immediately picks him off first base.
46: Batter whacks fly ball to deep RF where a fan in the front row stretches his hands over the railing and catches the ball. Batter allowed home run.
47: Batter hits drive past third and down the line to the bullpen fence. Batter thinks umpire calls foul ball returns to the plate while left fielder throws to first baseman for out.
48: Batter hits foul ball above first baseman who attempts catch near the base, but first base coach interferes and first baseman drops ball. Batter declared out.
51: Batter hits a blast to the top of fence. Pick a new random number; 11-31 is a homerun, 32-81 is a double off the fence, 82-88, center fielder with great catch.
52: Pitcher hits batter-causing melee. Ump ejects pitcher and batter and both receive 5 game suspensions. Ump warns both benches that any subsequent beanings will result in the ejection of the responsible pitcher.
53: Grounder to short to first, but close play. After review, batter “safe” if Home team at bat, “out” if Visiting team at bat.
54: Batter hits foul pop fly in infield that suddenly blows into fair territory. No one takes charge and the ball drops for an infield single.
55: Batter calls time out as pitcher begins delivery. The pitcher releases the ball and it hits the batter. The batter throws down his bat and begins trotting to first until the umpire reminds him that time was called. Batter still at bat.
56: Roller up first base line, catcher drills batter in back with ball. If Home team at bat, call it an E2, runners advance one base; if Visiting team at bat, batter called out for running inside the runner’s lane, all runners hold, putout to catcher.
57: Batter hits a drive down the left field line. If Home team at bat, ump rules it fair, a double to left; if Visiting team at bat, it’s a foul ball.
58: Batter hits bloop to shallow center. If Home team at bat, ball takes a sudden swerve and drops for single. If visiting team at bat, center fielder makes snag for out.
61: Batter hits fly to CF. Center fielder goes to warning track where he showboats and makes great catch with hat in glove. Incredibly, ump rules batter out. Center fielder does a juke dance.
62: Batter checks his swing on 3-2 pitch and catcher appeals to base ump; if Home team at bat, ump says “he held up” and batter walks; if Visiting team at bat, ump rules batter swung at pitch, strikeout.
63: Batter hits pop foul toward first base. Pick a new random number. If Home team in field, 11-48 results show first baseman makes fine catch while 51-88 results mean ball goes foul into stands. If Visiting team in field, 11-38 results show first baseman makes catch while 41-88 results mean a foul ball in stands.
64: Catcher clipped by foul tip. He leaves this game only.
65: Batter hits ball off pitcher’s shins. The first baseman grabs ball for easy tag out along baseline, but ump rules first baseman obstructed the batter on his way to first base. Single granted to batter.
66: Batter hits grounder to third baseman who cannot get the ball out his glove. Single.
67: Batter hits apparent triple. Pitcher argues batter missed touching first base and throws to first for out, but throws the ball away. Batter awarded first on infield error.
68: Batter strikes out and smashes bat on ground in frustration, splintering bat and injuring C who leaves rest of game.
71: Batter hits the ball, which bounces near the mound high into the air toward the gap in LF, and takes off for first. Shortstop breaks behind second base, tracking an imaginary ball, loudly calling off second baseman on decoy play. Batter rounds first and heads toward second, but stops near first when he sees the shortstop with glove up ready to catch ball. He then sees the right fielder catch the ball. Runner takes off for second. SP A runner safe at second; all others tossed out at second.
72: Batter strikes out, but catcher lets third strike pitch get past him to the grandstand. Catcher believes ball was foul and did not go after it. Batter runs to second while catcher chases the ball. The defensive team protest to umpires that it was a foul, but the decision stands. After the pitcher begins windup to next batter, umpire calls officials in. They decide batter should go back to first base. Score as passed ball.
73: Batter hits chopper to third base, who tosses to first but ball falls apart on the way. Batter ruled safe, ball replaced.
74: Batter hits dribbler along third base line. Pitcher goes to field ball, but catcher shoves him out of the way while third baseman falls on ground and literally blows the ball foul. Play stands.
75: Batter hits blooper to RF. Right fielder fields ball, but bobbles it and cannot make throw. Batter sees this and heads off for second. Right fielder kicks ball to second baseman who is able to make the out at second. Batter argues, but ump stands firm that play is legal.
76: Batter takes ball outside at the plate but nailed in the head by catcher’s throwback to the mound. Use injury chart (Pudner note, in our league we just have all injuries last for the 2-game series). for batter.
77: Batter hits chopper out to LF. Left fielder fields the ball running in, but ball takes odd bounce and goes down the neck entrance of left fielder’s shirt. Single.
78: Batter hits a chopper toward third. Ball ricochets off the third baseman’s glove into the glove of the shortstop, who makes the throw to first just in time.
81: Batter hits ball to center field wall where it takes an odd bounce high into the air. Batter thinks he has hit a homer, but thrown out at third base.
82: Third baseman fields chopper, but ball caroms off glove and into shirt. Single.
83: Batter hits ball heading foul beyond first base. Second baseman rushes to the stands, hops up on rain tarp roll, and steps into the stands for the catch. Batter ruled out.
84: Pitcher delivers pitch, but bug flies into his right eye in process. Must come out of game to avoid delay.
85: Batter hits high fly ball near third. Infield comes in late, but ball hits third-base bag and caroms out in stands. Ump rules ground-rule double.
86: Batter delivers hot liner toward centerfield. A flock of white birds suddenly takes flight, confusing the center fielder. Batter takes second on ruled double.
87: Routine grounder to second base. Second baseman fields ball and throws to first, but ball hits batter’s helmet at first and ball deflects off the helmet and dribbles into the outfield. Runner to second, error scored on second baseman.
88: Pitcher attempts obvious walk with outside pitch, but batter reaches out to make contact for a single.
Unusual Plays with Man on First
11: Batter swings at pitch and misses. Catcher immediately tosses to first for pickoff of runner but ball hits batter’s bat and caroms out of play. Runner advances to second base. Batter still at bat.
12: Batter hits liner, hitting runner heading to second. Batter ruled safe, runner ruled out.
13: Pitcher throws just as PA system startles everyone with loud cow MOO! Ball hits ground in front of plate, runner takes second.
14: Batter hits deep fly to center field where the center fielder attempts running catch. Ball hits center fielder on head and bounces over fence for homerun.
15: Batter hits liner off pitcher’s foot where it caroms upward. Pitcher catches the ball for the out. Runner holds.
16: Grounder to third. Third baseman tosses to first baseman who fields ball on baseline and collides with batter. Ruled interference. Batter safe, runner to second.
17: Chopper to second. Runner attempts to knock ball from glove to prevent double play. Interference called, batter and runner ruled out.
18: Batter hits pop up to second baseman in shallow outfield. Runner on first doesn’t move. Second baseman lets ball hit the ground and then he fires to shortstop covering second for the out. Batter safe on first.
21: Runner attempts steal of second; batter stands in front of catcher to make throw difficult. Interference called. Batter out, runner back to first.
22: Runner attempts steal of second; batter stands in front of catcher. Throw goes in outfield. Runner comes around to score.
23: Catcher nabs delivery, stands up to throw runner out at second on steal. Throw beans batter in head. Use Injury chart (Pudner note, in our league we just have all injuries last for the 2-game series). Runner safe at second on steal.
24: Batter hits deep fly that hits top of fence and bounces in. Runner at first stops at second, and batter comes up to second. Mass confusion ensues. Upon review, play declared homerun. Batter forced to go back to home, give a ghost swing, and round the bases. Runner scores, too.
25: Batter swings and hits foul that drops into catcher’s mitt; CD4 catcher doubles runner at first.
26: Female fans shake their booties at left fielder, distracting him. Batter gets double, runner scores; left fielder joins the dancing.
27: Batter gives check swing; catcher and home ump appeal to third-base ump who says no swing. Catcher tosses ball back to mound, but pitcher going off on third-base ump doesn’t see it and runner at first goes to third.
28: Batter hits chopper toward first. The first baseman prepares to field the ball, but the ball actually hits first base and takes a high hop toward centerfield. Batter safe, runner to second.
31: Batter hits foul ball off backstop fence, but ball caroms back to strike batter in head. Use Injury chart (Pudner note, in our league we just have all injuries last for the 2-game series). .
32: Batter hits deep fly to RF wall. Right fielder attempts to catch the ball, which hits wall and bounces in play for a triple. Right fielder’s glove is lost above wall and he must come out. Runner scores.
33: Batter hits liner to left, where the ball caroms off a beach ball someone tossed onto the field. Ump rules batter gets credit for single, runner to second.
34: Batter hits a grounder towards pitcher, but bat breaks and pitcher struck by fragment. Single granted, runner to second. Pitcher out this game only.
35: Batter hits double and gives dramatic bat toss. Home ump calls batter out for poor sportsmanship.
36: Water sprinklers malfunction and soak the infield. Game delayed. If current pitcher stays in, lower P-B rate one level.
37: Fan streaks out in left field. Left fielder body-slams and pins the fan until police arrive.
38: Fan reaches out of stands on foul ball down right field line. With new random number, 11-28, interference, batter out (putout to first). 31-88, drops ball foul.
41: Batter doubles to left field. Throw from left fielder to second is wild. Batter and runner score on error.
42: Second baseman fields a grounder in awkward position. He tosses ball to shortstop who tags runner out. If shortstop is CD4, he doubles batter at first for incredible defensive play.

54: Batter hits dribbler that rolls foul of baseline, but ball comes unstitched and rolls fair. Catcher picks it up and tags batter out in batter’s box. Runner holds.
55: Pitcher slips on mound during delivery, sending wild pitch out of control. Runner to third. Batter still at bat.
56: Pinch runner sent in for the runner at first, but has different version of uniform on. Ump calls runner out and ejects him for possible distraction to defense.
57: Batter sends ball to the wall where right fielder makes catch but tumbles through the wall. Runner cannot advance on ump ruling.
58: Batter bunts ball that drops in shallow right field. Batter safe, runner safe at second.
61: Batter swings for strikeout, but catcher drops the ball and it ensnares in his uniform. Batter to first, runner to third.
62: Batter hits pop up that pitcher lets drop to field. Pitcher then tosses to first to nail batter and first baseman drills it to second for the double play. Ump rules pitcher lost ball in sunny glare and play stands.
63: Batter hits ball into center field and attempts to stretch into double. Center fielder throws to second base but batter stops completely and jumps to the bag, successfully eluding the tag from second. Batter safe with double, runner scores.
64: Catcher clipped by foul tip and must be removed for this game only.
65: Batter hits ball to second baseman who juggles the ball into the air. Shortstop immediately gets the catch and tags second for an unassisted double play.
66: Catcher hits bat upon throwback to the mound. Runner goes to second. Umpire rules the ball was live, and runner credited with steal.
67: Batter hits soft fly out to LF; left fielder appears to lose ball just for a moment but nabs ball in his bare hand. Runner forced to hold.
68: Batter hits ball back to pitcher who backhand catches it for out.
71: Batter hits the ball between second and third. Shortstop taps the ball with his glove to second baseman who makes the out at second. Batter safe at first.
72: Batter strikes out, but catcher lets third strike pitch get past him to the grandstand. Catcher believes ball was foul and did not go after it. 75: Batter hits a fly ball to left field. Left fielder fields ball and begins coming in toward dugout thinking he caught third out. Runner runs to third safely (unless LF was correct).
76: Short grounder to the second baseman who bobbles ball and cannot make play. Batter safe, runner at second.
77: Batter misses bunt for strike three and runner nailed by catcher at first getting back to base.
78: Batter hits a hot one toward third. Ball ricochets off the third baseman’s glove into the glove of the shortstop who makes the throw to the second baseman just in time to make double play.
81: Runner breaks for second base. Catcher fires the ball toward second base, but neither second baseman nor shortstop make a move and ball goes into outfield. Runner to third.
82: Batter fires ball deep into left. Left fielder goes back to wall, but loses ball in sunlight. Ball hits left fielder’s glove and bounces up and over wall for homer.
83: Batter hits ball high near foul pole in left. He rounds the bases in celebration only to learn that the ball went foul by mere inches. Batter still at bat, runner still at first.
84: Pitcher delivers pitch and batter sends ball right back to mound. Pitcher, startled, puts up hand and ball knocks glove into the air, but pitcher catches it and the ball for putout. Runner to second.
85: Batter hits broken bat grounder with wicked spin toward shortstop who cannot field ball and it travels into left field. However, the ball bounces again toward center field. Batter gets double, runner scores.
86: Batter breaks bat on short hopper to third. Ump calls batter out for illegal bat. Runner forced to return to first.
87: Batter hits roller toward the gap between first and second. Second baseman uses his foot to kick ball into the air toward second baseman who makes the tag on the baserunner. Batter safe at first.
88: Pitcher attempts obvious walk with outside pitch, but batter reaches out to make contact. Safe at first, runner to second.
Unusual Plays with Man on Second
11: Batter swings for strikeout, catcher tosses to second for putout of runner, but ball hits batter’s bat and caroms out of play. Runner takes third.
12: Batter hits grounder but bat gets caught in his legs and sends him to ground. Runner heads to third, batter easily out at first.
13: Batter hits chopper that takes high bounce. Runner heading to third runs into the second bounce. Batter safe, runner declared out.
14: Batter hits deep fly to center field where the center fielder attempts running catch. Ball hits the center fielder’s shoes and bounces over fence for homerun.
15: Catcher faces up with ump to argue balls and strikes and is ejected from game.
16: Batter hits an infield nubber fielded by the catcher. The catcher throws to third baseman to nail runner sliding in from second. The third baseman loses the ball in the catch and it rolls away and the baserunner attempts to run home for the score but he runs into the third baseman and both tumble to the ground as the shortstop picks up the ball, tags third and fires home for the force out. Meanwhile, batter arrives at second base. The umps confer and declare obstruction and give the baserunner home and a score.
17: Batter hits a chopper toward second where the second baseman cannot field it but he does tap it to the shortstop who throws batter out at first. Runner stays at second.
18: Batter hits deep fly to center field where the center fielder makes spectacular catch. Runner to third.
21: Batter hits ball down line to third where the third baseman grabs it to catch baserunner off second. Batter safe at first; runner caught in rundown between third baseman and shortstop for out.
22: Batter swings and misses. Catcher stands up to throw runner out but the bat comes around and hits the catcher. Home umpire immediately calls baserunner out.
23: Shortstop fields ball and starts throw to first, but runner on second begins takeoff. This freezes the shortstop. Runner slides back to second, batter safe at first, and shortstop frustrated.
24: Batter pops up to outfield but right fielder cannot find the ball. The ball lands ten feet behind him. Runner scores, batter to third with triple.
25: Pitcher tosses ball to second. Second baseman fakes toss back to pitcher and tags runner out as runner takes a step off the bag.
26: Ball hit deep to right center. Baserunner scores, batter attempts to stretch hit into double and tries to slide into second base. Batter hits ground for slide but his body stops and second baseman easily tags him out.
27: Batter bunts toward third. Catcher nabs the ball, fakes a toss to the third baseman and drills the batter out at first base. Runner faked and stuck at second.
28: Batter bunts. Catcher picks ball up, fakes throw to first, fooling runner into heading to third, but catcher fires ball to shortstop who makes a running tag.
31: Batter hits ball back to pitcher, who whirls and throws errantly to first. Runner rounds third and heads home on the error, but is hit by catcher’s throw to first. Ump at home calls runner out at home. Batter safe at second.
32: Batter hits ground ball to center fielder who throws the ball to third base. Runner slides into third safe but is tangled up with third baseman who throws to second from the ground as batter takes second. Runner at third attempts to run home, but trips over third baseman’s legs. He gets home late and is tagged out, but ump rules obstruction and declares the runner safe and scores.
33: Grounder hit to shortstop who kicks the ball. Batter safe at first, runner safe at third.
34: Ball hit to center but begins tailing off toward left. Center fielder begins sprinting toward ball and dives in shallow left, but the ball drops for a hit. Runner scores, batter safe at first.
35: Batter hits to center fielder who fields the ball on diving short hop (no review). Umpire calls batter out on catch. Runner scored, but defense tags second for double play. Batter ejected from the game for arguing and spitting at umpire.
37: Batter hits dribbler toward first base. First baseman comes down the line to grab ball, but pitcher enters the area and collides with first baseman while batter avoids both on way to first. Runner to third, batter credited with infield single.
38: Runner attempts steal of third; batter stands in batter’s box. Catcher’s throw hits bat and heads back toward backstop. Runner safe at third. Catcher wants interference called but ump says play legal.
41: Runner attempts steal of third; batter stands in front of catcher. Throw goes in outfield. Runner comes around to score.
42: Catcher nabs delivery, stands up to throw runner out at third on steal. Throw beans batter in head. Use injury chart (Pudner note, in our league we just have all injuries last for the 2-game series). Runner safe at third on steal.
43: Batter hits one to LF and rounds first to run into ump. Left fielder tosses to second for out. Runner to third. Batter credited with single on interference; runner stays at third.
44: Pitcher throws high pitch. Catcher catches it, but gets up and runs toward backstop as if wild pitch. Runner runs to third, but catcher turns, fires the ball to third baseman who nails runner out at third.
45: Batter hits foul dribbler on right-side baseline that suddenly rolls fair. Catcher hops up, grabs ball, and tries to tag the stunned batter, but the ball comes out of his hand. Batter takes off for first. Catcher recovers ball and throws to first, but the throw is three feet away from the first baseman’s glove. Runner scores, batter to third.
46: Batter hits single to right field. Runner rounds third and slips. Batter safe at first, runner stuck at third.
47: Pitcher called for balk. Runner to third.
48: Batter hits dribbler down left field line. Third baseman comes in to field ball but misjudges and ball slips by him. Runner rounds third and heads home; batter safe at second.
51: Batter hits one just over the fence. Right fielder leaps to catch, but the ball rolls off hands of fans and back onto the playing field. Right fielder throws to third base and nails batter. Runner scores. Ump rules play stands as is.
52: Batter swings and hits foul that drops into catcher’s mitt; CD 4 catcher doubles runner at second.

13: Grounder to third baseman who tags third for an out and throws to second baseman covering second base for the force out there. Base runner sliding into second argues he is safe. Ump doesn’t agree. Double play stands. Batter safe at first.
14: Batter hits a drive to third baseman who dives for ball but shortstop appears to actually field ball well behind the third baseman. As runner on second comes to third, third baseman reveals ball in glove and tags runner out.
15: Batter hits ball back to mound and pitcher tosses to second to nail runner. However, the umpire blocks the path and ball falls on base path. Batter declared safe and all runners advance one. Much arguing!
16: Runner at second attempts steal of third, but batter interferes with catcher’s throw. Home ump doesn’t like play, allows lead runner to third and declares batter out.
17: Batter hits sound double to right field, but pitcher tags first base saying batter never touched the bag. First base ump agrees and, upon review, finds the runners passed each other. All runners are out for unassisted triple play for the pitcher.
18: Pitcher tries to catch runner at second sleeping, but his throw goes into centerfield. Runner at second scores. Runner at first tries to slide into third, but throw from center fielder nails him out at the bag.
21: Batter hits chopper to shortstop who makes the throw to third who tags lead runner and then drills it to first to nail batter. Double play 6-5-3. Runner at first safe at second.
22: Batter hits the left field foul pole; ball bounces back fair. Batter gets double, both runners score.
23: Batter strikes out, but both runners attempt steal. Catcher’s throw is so early to third that the lead baserunner turns tail and heads back to second base, but the other baserunner is already there. That runner takes off back to first, but is tagged out after third baseman throws to first. Baserunner on second attempts second run to third, but is thrown out, first back to third.
24: Batter hits apparent fly out to centerfield, but center fielder can’t get to it. Both baserunners head for home, and nearly arrive simultaneously. Strong throw from center fielder allows catcher to tag both runners out at the plate in rapid succession. Batter safe at second.
25: Batter hits line drive to center fielder who tries to double runner off at first base. Baserunner at second tags up and runs to third. First basemen relays throw to catcher at home to prevent score, but makes a wild throw, allowing lead runner to score and runner at first to go to second.
26: Batter grounds to third. The defense throws the ball around a little before recording a double play, 5-4(1)-5-4-5(2)/GDP. Batter safe at first.
27: Batter hits sharp grounder between first and second; second baseman fields the ball and throws out the batter at first. First baseman throws to shortstop to double off runner heading to second, but the runner on second beats the throw and heads to third. Shortstop throws home to catcher to nail the lead runner, but throw just late. Runner at home declared safe, runner from first safe at third.
28: Foul ball on the right side. First baseman goes over to make the catch but fan reaches out and grabs for the ball, knocking it out of his way. If visiting team in field, ump says nothing; if home team, interference called and batter declared out.
31: Ball hits base runner just off first and is ruled out. Runner on second holds.
32: Unassisted triple play! Line out to second baseman who touches the bag to double lead runner off and then chases and tags the runner coming from and now running back to first as he falls down well short of first base.
33: Looping line drive into shallow center field is caught by the center fielder who then throws to second baseman who tags the bag and then throws to first to tag the bag for a triple play. Score it 8-6-3.
34: Liner hit to first baseman, who steps on bag to double runner off first. He throws to third baseman to attempt a triple play but the throw is wild and goes into the dugout for an error, allowing the runner to score from second.
35: Line out to second baseman, who steps on bag to double runner off second. He throws to first to attempt a triple play but the throw is wild and goes into the stands for an error, allowing the runner to move to third.
36: Line out to first baseman, who steps on the bag to double the runner off first and then throws to second to retire the man there on a 3-6. Triple play!
37: Base runner on second base misses a sign and attempts to steal third. Catcher nails him at the bag.
38: Grounder to short who flips to second base for the force out. Runner comes in hard, bowling over the second baseman. Baserunner and second baseman start a fight and are each ejected from the game.
41: Grounder to short who flips to second baseman for the force out. Base runner slides hard into second baseman, preventing him from attempting to turn a double play. Ump rules that he slid out of the baseline and rules both the runner and the batter out. If this doesn’t make 3 outs, the runner from 2nd base is sent back to 2nd as well.
