It may be no surprise the Statis-Pro LA Dodgers are dominating the Seattle Mariners much as the real life LA Dodgers did to the Yankees in the real World Series. However, in both cases the underdog had real chances. For the third game in a row the Dodgers rallied late for the win to take a 3 games to none lead and be one game from sweeping to end our Statis-Pro season.
Logan Gilbert was dominant for the Mariners through his maximum 7 innings with only three base runners allowed on two hits and a walk. While the weakness of both bullpens on our projected cards is the one issue for each team, the Mariners did have one other solid PB2-7 card who could have wrapped up the game or pitched extended extra innings in Bryce Miller.
The shocker then occurred in the bottom of the 8th when the hero once again was Kiké Hernández, when he got a pitch he could hit and on a 27, one of only two numbers that are a clean homer on his projected card of 27-28, tied the game 1-1.
In the top of the 9th, real World Series hero Freddie Freeman came through with a 1-out single, and pinch runner James Outman stole second base. Max Muncy then sent a tough grounder toward 3rd base that would have required a clutch defensive play by Josh Rojas, but on a play most would have made it went by him for what would be a game-winning single.
To the contrary, it was the defense of Dodgers catch Will Smith that may have saved the game in the 8th and 9th inning.
Bobby Miller had allowed only a second inning homer to Luke Raley, and gotten out of a 2nd and 3rd base on outsituation in the 5th and was helped when Teoscar Hernández threw out J.P. Crawford trying to go 1st to 3rd in the 6th inning.
He stayed in for the 8th despite that meaning his PB was reduced from PB2-8 to PB2-7 for exceeding his 7 maximum innings pitched. He struck out the first two, but then Julio Rodríguez singled to reduce him to a PB 4-7 and he had to be replaced by Brusdar Graterol, there only decent PB 2-7 in the pen. With J-Rods AAA speed he is an almost automatic steal, particularly with the new Statis-Pro rules making odd Random Numbers that would be outs merely a base held.
However, Muncy came up with a 52 - one of only two automatic caught stealing along with 48 now that a 47 and 51 are just holds, and J-Rod was thrown out to end the inning.
With two outs in the 9th, Mitch Garver singled, and Speed A Cade Marlowe could not get a jump to steal 2nd, and Crawford hit a dribbler in front of the plate that Muncy threw to 1st to end the game.
