In the Statis-Pro World Series that started in the 1980s with two friends in Richmond Virginia,
the dominant Los Angeles Dodgers out of our NL Montana League exploded late to defeat
the Seattle Mariners who came out of the very balanced AL Milwaukee League.
The two commissioners rotate which plays the AL and NL every season.
Clearly the teams were nervous on the big stage, as the pitching staffs combined to
issue 14 walks in the game.
Tyler Glasnow was uncharacteristically wild, throwing seven walks during his five
innings of work.
The two teams couldn’t take advantage as they also combined for 24 men left on
base. (Sea-14, LA-10).
After all that, Cal Raleigh’s RBI single in the 6th tied the game 2-2.
But in the bottom of the 8th, the Dodgers finally got hot.
Kike Hernandez started the rally with an RBI single for the 3-2 lead. Two batters
later Mookie Betts crushed a grand slam home run to center field.
The Dodgers roll to the 8-3 opening game win.
Game Two pitching matchup tonight:
