1st 2 World Series Games Decided in Last at Bat

 Aces Urias and Cole started the 2022 Statis-Pro World Series, and combined for 15 scoreless innings and the game went all the way to the 10th. 

However the Dodgers beat the best rookie reliever in the game when Justin Turner hit a 3-run homer in the 10th off of PB 2-9 Clay Holmes for the 3-0 win.

Then in the second game they beat him again. Holmes pitched a 1-2-3 8th inning but Freeman drew a walk to start the 9th and Muncy singled. Smith then struck out, but the rookie Holmes could not find the plate - walked former Yankee Gallo and then Bellinger to force in the winning run and a 5-4 Dodgers win.

Two great games, but the Yankees will need to dig out of a whole trailing 2 games to 0 as they head for three games in Yankee Stadium.

Statis-Pro 2022 World Series - Yankees at Dodgers

 MLB would have loved a classic Dodgers-Yankees World Series for the New York and TV ratings, but instead got another great match-up in the Astros vs. Phillies.starting tomorrow night.

We start one night ahead of the real thing, with Games 1 and 2 in Los Angeles. We finished our NL months ago, so went back to reprint the player card and check them against NL rosters. Click here for pitchers and here for batters - which produced the sheets pictured below to print out.

The cards we cannot use have an X in the photo because they are either not in the roster or are in DL. The biggest lost is ace pitcher Buhler.

We use cards on the roster, even if they are actually listed in the minors now (see "minors.")

Dodgers 2019 -2021 Added as 60th Statis-Pro All-Time Great

The Los Angeles Dodgers play the New York Yankees in our Statis-Pro World Series - the series many thought would happen most of the year. Instead, the real World Series will start Friday between the Houston Astros and Philadelphia Phillies.

The 1963 and 1988 LA Dodgers were already in our 12-team all-time great game. However, I could not figure out what to do with the Dodgers. Like the 1990s Atlanta Braves, they were certainly the dominant NL team and should be in the game, and like the Braves they just had one World Series title - but I really did not want to use a 60-game Covid year of 2020 for a team with so few stats.

Originally I had added the 1995 Seattle Mariners - but since they already have the 2001 Mariners which won 116 games, I decided I really needed to get the modern Dodgers in the game.

What I finally settled on was that I would take the 2020 championship roster, but take each player's 3-year totals for stats to avoid wild swings that would have resulted from a shorted season.

Below find the Dodgers 2019-21 batters with their home run range and stats, then the pitchers, and then the updated roster of all 60 teams broken down by 5 division.

5th of 5 Great Division Debuts - 1972 A's vs. 2001 Mariners

On the night of the actual 2022 World Series between the Phillies and the Astros, we get set for our alternate reality 2022 projected Statis-Pro Card World Series with the New York Yankees vs. the Los Angeles Dodgers.

Meanwhile in All-Time play we get set for our 5th and final Division debut, as the 1972 Oakland A's face the 2001 Seattle Mariners. The A's won three straight World Series and the Mariners won the most game of any team ever. Here are their pitcher's and line-ups following be summary of all five divisions below these screen shots.

New York-Boston Division - 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers won 3-2 in 14 innings, and 19-9 vs. 1927 Yankees 

East Division - 1909 Pirates won 1-0, vs 2008 Phillies won 5-3 in 11 innings

Midwest Division - St. Louis Browns 1922 vs KC Royals 1985, royals win 5-3 and 3-2. 

South Division - Atlanta Braves 1995 win 7-2 vs. Washington Senators 1934 win 1-0.

We have reached the Statis-Pro World Series using 2022 Projected cards  The Yankees swept the regular season champ Jays with ease - as their 3rd and 4th pitchers Montas and Severino won 5-0 and 5-1 games against the highest scoring offense if our season. Rizzo had 5 hits in games 3 and 4. (See bottom of blog for score sheet and key player cards).

The classic Dodgers - Yankees series lead us to open the All-Time play in our 12-team New York-Boston Division. We decided to try two of the greatest teams of all-time - the 1927 Yankees and the 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. Their player cards in sheet form are below. Don Newcombe pitches game 1 and when he bats can hit a homer on a 23-31.

Division openers:

East Division - 1909 Pirates won 1-0, vs 2008 Phillies won 5-3 in 11 innings.

New York-Boston Division - 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers vs. 1927 Yankees - craziest double header I've ever played. Aces Newcomb (who also bats 3rd) and Hoyt started in dead ball 1927 game for  3-2 Dodgers win in 14 innings. Duke Snyder hit 2-run homer in top of 14th then in bottom Jackie Robinson's Clutch Defense 5 saved game with diving stop down 3rd base line. Both bullpens shot for finale in a little more lively ball 1955, which Brooklyn won 19-9. Dodgers ended up needing to put the affable but terrible pitch Tommy Lasorda on mound for last two outs. He gave up a sac fly to Meusal to cut it to 19-8, then a wild pitch to make it 19-9 with the greatest mismatch in Statis-Pro history of Lasorda pitching to Lou Gehrig - who against all odds grounded out to shortstop.  The ridiculous score sheet is at the very bottom of the blog.

Certainly feel the Dodgers got their money's worth for the ridiculously high salaries they paid their big three bats!

Yanks Take 2-0 ALCS Lead - Break from All-time Statis-Pro teams to 2022 ALCS

 Before we move to the all-time Statis-Pro Yankees teams (1927, 1936, 1961, 1998 and 2022) start their games in our 12-team New York-Boston Division, we need the current Yankees to finish our current Statis-Pro season.

The MGM preseason betting line projected the Dodgers, Yankees and Blue Jays would be the best three teams in MLB this year. Using the Statis-Pro projected 2022 cards, that's exactly what we have, with the Dodgers already in the World Series and the Blue Jays and Yankees in the ALCS to see who plays them.

This year the Statis-Pro winner will not match the actual MLB World Series camp, as the surprising Phillies and Astros (whose pitchers in real MLB were MUCH better then their projected cards) will face off.

It may be true the Astros are the Yankees kryptonite. After the real Yankees were swept by the Astros, the Statis-Pro Yankees drew another ALCS foe, the Blue Jays. The Yankees hammered out 6-2 and 8-4 wins against the regular season champions to head back to Yankee Stadium with a 2 games to 0 lead in the best of 7.

The 1908 Pirates won a dead ball era game 1-0, the went to 2008 and lost in 10 innings to Brad Lidge in 11 innings.

Background and line-ups

 Here are the players for the Pennsylvania game between the 1908 Pittsburgh Pirates and the 2008 Philadelphia Phillies on the day that the real Phillies made the World Series. This is our first game in our All-Time Eastern Division.

Our Midwestern Division kicked off with the 1985 Kansas City Royals coming back to beat the St. Louis Browns 1922 team. In Southern play, Greg Maddux 1995 Braves and Walter Johnson's 1924 Senators.
