Duquesne's Grant shuts down Kidd's Cal 1993 team to pull 2024 teams within 1 game

The series between teams that were added from the 2024 tournament and teams added because they had one of the top 75 players of all time continues.

The latest game featured Jason Kidd, who will be coaching the Mavs in Game 3 of the playoffs Friday, and his Cal team - that will be joining the ACC next season of all conferences - against the Duquesne team that stunned Brigham Young in the open round of March Madness for their ninth straight win before falling to Illinois.

The Duquesne 2024 team showed they were for real with a pretty dominant 75-65 win behind 21 points from Dae Dae Grant to give the 2024 teams a 2-3 mark and chance to tie the series if they win the last two matchups.

Duquesne moved up from #225 to #200 in our rankings, while Cal dropped from #153 to #209.

We just took a picture of the simple scoresheet, noting the game took 34 minutes.to play. Lamond Murray (12 points) was the only Cal player in double digits.

If NC State, Grand Canyon and Yale can win the final three games, then the 2024 teams would win the series against the great players 5 games to 3, or if 2 of the three win the series would be split. Yale is a 9-point underdog against Oregon State and Gary Payton, which so far in the history of the game has only meant a 19% chance of winning - but Duquesne was also a 9-point underdog against Cal.

In their 2024 conference ratings on that link Duquesne improved from 14th to 11th among A10 schools and Cal dropped from 28th to 40th among schools in their new ACC conference.

Atlantic 10 Conference Top 15 Men’s Basketball Players To Date

“Value Add Basketball is happy to provide the early list of the conference’s top 15 men’s  basketball players based on proven analytics used by NBA teams for draft prep,as well as writers at Sports Illustrated, ESPN, NBC Sports, Fox Sports,” said John Pudner, the inventor of the system.”

“We assumed the Bonnie’s would emerge as big favorites after beating VCU for the title last year and with the two players in the conference we rate as legitimate NBA prospects - Osun Osunniyi (ranked 8th in the conference and 41% chance of making the NBA) and Kyle Lofton (15th though would rank higher if he had not missed three games and 46% chance at the NBA). However, right now six teams in the conference are ranked closely together at www.kenpom.com.”

“Three Davidson players rank in the top five in the conference, and after their stunning upset of Alabama they seem to be a slight favorite with an eye on the February 1 game with the Bonnies. Those three were all strong in the 79-78 upset of Alabama, with Michael Jones leading the way with 21 points, Foster Loyer hitting 3 of 7 three-pointers and dishing out 8 assists, and Hyunjung Lee adding 4-8 three-pointers to make Davidson look like a true threat.”

Information includes each player’s chance of making the NBA, his Value Add Rating for how many points he impacts a typical game (roughly 10 points is All-American level). The key to the table is: Rank = the player's conference ranking, Value Add = how many points he improves his team over a replacement player, Class = if he is in his 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th and final year of eligibility, Ht = his height, AdjD = how many points he takes away from opponents, and NBA = his percent chance of making the NBA.
