First Statis-Pro Semifinal Pool - Red Sox, NY Mets and LA Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers left no doubt they are the favorite in our Statis-Pro tournament using 2026 Projected Cards, in a "what if" season where every team gets to play at full strength despite real-life injuries.

POOL A – The Los Angeles Dodgers left no doubt they are the overall favorite by going 4-0 in Pool A, including a 12-4 win over Washington and a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Athletics last night. They finished pool play with an overall scoring margin of 35-11, an average win of 9-3.

While Ohtani blasted two homers in a 4-for-4 game with a walk in the blowout over Washington, the final game against the Athletics was tied going into the bottom of the 8th inning. Tyler Glasnow turned in a brilliant one-hit performance through six innings before allowing a run in the 7th. With the score tied 2-2, Kyle Tucker was hit by a pitch, stole second base, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored when Freddie Freeman blasted a deep drive to right field.

POOL B – Pool B took all six games to decide as all three teams finished 2-2, but the Boston Red Sox — the hottest team in baseball over the last month of the real season — had a +5 run differential to win the tiebreaker and advance. That knocked out the Atlanta Braves, who are ranked higher overall in the real MLB standings but have not been nearly as hot as the Red Sox.

POOL C – The New York Mets upset the crosstown Yankees in the opener and beat Miami twice to clinch Group C at 3-0. The Mets have struggled in the real season due to a long list of injuries, and as noted in an earlier blog, they added a number of great players this season with outstanding projected Statis-Pro cards. However, they also took on several players with significant injury histories while letting stars who tend to stay healthy go, and that trend continued during the real season. Since the Statis-Pro tournament is a "what if" scenario that uses the projected cards for injured players, the Mets are living up to their preseason Power Ranking as the fifth-best projected team in MLB.

Pool J will now feature the three advancing teams — the Dodgers, Mets, and Red Sox. Each team will throw its top four starting pitchers against each of the other two clubs, and every reliever may pitch in one of the two games against each opponent, but not both. The three teams advancing appear in red below. This will be one of three semifinal pools, and the champion of each will be in a 3-team championship pool.
