Defense, Speed, Pitching Keys Brewers Advancing to Statis-Pro Semifinals

The Statis-Pro Milwaukee Brewers used five stolen bases, five defensive plays that saved runs, two new PB 4-7 upgrades in the rotation, and a total of FIVE PB 2-8 excellent relievers to beat San Francisco 4-0 then Toronto 6-2 to win Pool E and advance to play Pool D champ Tampa and one team to be determined in a semifinal pool.

Of the 11 batters who played in the two games, five were excellent base stealers (A SP rating) and four more were good base stealers (B). The only defender who is not excellent is shortstop Jett Williams, but both games he reached base early and then pinchrunner David Hamilton came in and then went into shortstop where he is excellent to mean the team always had half gold glover level (Clutch Defense - CD 5) defenders and the other half were very good CD4 defenders.

The only two runs scored agaisnt them in the two games came as result of a walk followed by a home run to let them score with no chance for the defense to make a play.

However, the first two games we played after the trade deadline finalized rosters were a funny start - as Chourio double and scored to make it 1-0 Milwaukee, and then Luis Arraez had singled and Rafael Devers homered to make it 2-1 and none of it counted - because a Z-play came up as the old 21 that states that the skies opened and rained out the game before the first inning was even over - so both starters were lost and and both teams needed to go to their fifth starter. This was good because we then realized that Arraez had not been moved to the Phillies at the trade deadline so that is now fixed.

The following are the three semifinal polls, with the teams in bold already clinched and the teams in italics are teams that are now 2-0 but have not clinched:

Semifinal Pool J - Boston, NY Mets and likely 2-0 LA Dodgers

Semifinal Pool K - Tampa, Milwaukee and likely 2-0 Kansas City

Semifinal Pool L - TBD but the three with 2-0 records are Philadelphia, Arizona and Minnesota

Best teams upset in pools to be eliminated are Braves and Yankees, and Cubs are on the verge at 0-2.

Here are the basic numbers on each Brewers card as shown in the previous blog and what each did during the two games last night as the Brewers clinched.

The Brewers join Pool D champion Tampa in one of three semifinal pools, but those two may get help unless the Pool F favorite Chicago Cubs rally with their final roster after the trade. They are 2-0 and the stunning Kansas City Royals are 2-0 with the St Louis Cardinals at 1-1. The Cubs would need to win both, then have St. Louis beat Kansas City and to have all teams finish 2-2 and then win the run differential tie breaaker.
