Statis-Pro Pitching Cards Available, but will Still Be updated Further

We have begun to produce the pitchers' card, and they are far enough along to play a Statis-Pro baseball game with them and the batters' cards produced yesterday. Click here for the team-by-team cards.

Here is a screen shot of the pitching staff for the defending World Series Champion Atlanta Braves, with a description below.

Order. Just as we lined up the 1st nine batters in a suggested batting order, we lined up each pitching staff to start with a suggested rotation. We just use a 4-person rotation in our league, so Max Fried would start the first game, then Charlie Morton, Ian Anderson, and Huascar Ynoa. MLB teams actually use 5- or 6-man rotations, so would go further down the list.

Other pitchers can be used as relievers.

RHP/LHP.  The pitcher's name at team is followed by either an RHP or LHP to indicate if they pitch left-handed or right-handed, which factors into the result of each at bat if the Random Number is 11-14 or 85-88.

PB: The next number is the most important in Statis-Pro, the PB rating that determines if the pitcher keeps the action on his card on a 2-die roll totaling 2-12. Atlanta does not have any pitcher with best rating - a PB: 2-9 which goes to players with a neutral park FIP (very close to ERA) of 3.00 or better.

Max Fried and four of the Braves' relievers have the second best rating, a 2-8 - Fried as the ace starter and four relievers. These are for a neutral FIP/ERA of 3.50 or lower.

The Braves have two more starters and two relievers who control the action the majority of the time, a 2-7 roll, which is for a FIP/ERA up to 4.00.

The exact average pitcher is a PB 4-7, which puts the pitcher in control half of the time, or on 18 of 36 rolls.

Lesser pitchers have a below average 2-6, but none of the Braves have a very poor 2-5, or the worst rating of 2-4.

The next three numbers indicated how long the pitcher can pitch before losing his endurance. 15 7 7

Max Fried's SR of 15 means when he starts a game he can give up a combination of hits, walks, hit by pitch, runs scored and innings completed in a started game, but after that his PB needs to drop 1 for each additional runner or run allowed or inning completed. If the player pitches in relief the endurance is half as high or 7 in his case as the RR. Those are the traditional endurance factors, However, we have also added a third figure which is the maximum number of innings a pitcher can throw even if he is dominating the game. Fried can go 7 innings if he is pitching great and still has SR endurance left, but if he came back out for the 8th inning he would drop one PB to a 2-7, and very time a runner reached it would drop again to a 4-7, 2-6, 2-5, 2-4 and even 2-3 and 2-2 if he stayed in way too long.

At this point we have not actually calculated the next several numbers so that someone can play a game now, but these rations will be calculated and updated.

If Fried gets in a control with a 2-8 roll, then the 11-88 roll right now would allow the MLB average single on an 11-23, he would balk on a 24, strike out a batter on a 25-45, walk a batter on a 46-54, throw a wild pitch on a 55, and a possible passed ball or play by catcher on a 56-57.

With pitchers no longer batting, we left the cards all the same with a Sacrifice rating of BB with a few AA for great bunters. We also left the fielding standard for all pitchers at this point with an E3 and CD3, except for Gold Glove nominees who are an E1 and CD5.

Note that like with the batters, to pitchers on the active roster or on the disabled list appear on the first sheet, but if a player is on the 60-day DL or is not on the roster or teams DL report, then they appear on the second page.

Clutch Defense 4 and 5 for All Players Nominated for Gold Glove 2020 or 2021

The following are the top fielders in the game at each position, thus awarded a minimum of a Clutch Defense 5 (best) or CD4 (2nd best). If the player was nominated for the Gold Glover award in either league in 2021, they automatically get the best rating (CD5). If a pitcher was nominated in 2020, they also get a CD5. If a non-pitcher was nominated in 2020 but not in 2021, then they get at least a CD4 unless they were one of the few that qualified as a CD5 based on the info below:

On the new cards, each player is assigned only his main position, however they can play other positions as indciated:

Centerfielders (CF) can now move to RF or LF with their Error Rating only increased by 1.

Rightfielders (RF) and Leftfielders (LF) can flip to the other position with an Error Rating only increased by 1, and if they have an On-base Running of A or B, they can also move to centerfield with an Error Rating only increased by 1.

Shorstops (SS) can play Third Base (3B) or Second Base (2B) with an Error Rating only one higher. Admittedly this was partly driven by our Puerto Rican team having three Gold Glove Shortstop nominees on the roster in Correa, Lindor and Baez.

Third-baseman (3B) can play First Base (1B) with the error rating increased by 1.

In addition, any player who played one to nine games at any other position can play that position with an E7, CD1, and for catcher TA or outfielder T2.

If a player plays a position he did not play during the season then he plays with an E10 and if Catcher a TC or if Outfield a T2.

Fielding Background Previously Posted

Based on runs erased by fielders their Clutch Defensive Rating in the game is somewhere between a CD1 (worst) and a CD5 (best). However, we only give a couple of CD5 spots out based on this rating - we mainly save them for players who have been nominated for a Gold Glove in the last 4 seasons. We just still believe observations has to be part of fielding ratings - as great as the improvement in stats has been.

Statis-Pro Pitchers Cards Hopefully Posted Tonight

We suddenly had hundreds of clicks tonight after posting the Statis-Pro Batters cards, and are working to hopefully complete the pitchers' cards so you will have everything you need to play games. These will all just be in sheets form, and will later be merged into player cards.

Statis-Pro Batters for all 30 MLB Teams Based on 2022 Projected Batting, Fielding and Baserunning Stats

Click here for all Statis-Pro batters cards based on 2022 projected stats. The image below is of the defending World Champion Atlanta Braves.

We set up a column to the far right to number the batting order you choose 1 through 9 so you can export this sheet to excel, sort it, and play a game keeping them in order. The full player cards will be produced later.

Here is the key to each column.

Name

Team

Position - we are only listing primary position this year, but players can also play other positions.
C - if plays 1B add 1 to the E rating and subtract 1 from the CD rating.
1B - if plays 3b double the E rating and subtract 1 from the CD rating.
2B - if plays SS or 3B double the E rating and subtract 1 from the CD rating.
3B - if plays 2B or SS double the E rating and subtract 1 from the CD rating.
SS - can play 2B or 3B with no adjustments.
LF - can play RF. If players CD add 1 to Error and subtract one from CD.
CF - can play RF or LF with no adjustment.
RF - can play LF. If players CD add 1 to Error and subtract one from CD.
We generally upgrade all gold glove nominees from the past couple of seasons to CD5, but have not made those adjustments yet.

OBR/SP
The first letter refers to the On Base Running (OBR) used on charts to try to take and extra base or beat out a double play. The SP is used on the steal chart.

H&R - Hit & Run is usually 0, but a very good contact hitter could be a 1 or 2 and choose to use that on the hit and run chart with a runner on 1st base or 1st and 3rd.

1B - on Random Numbers, from an 11 to the first boxed number is a single.

2B - any number higher than the single (1b) number to the number listed is a double.

3B - if the number is higher than the 2B number then that is a triple, but for many numbers it is the same - meaning he cannot hit a double.

HR  - the red number is a Home Run.

Deep - the next number is a deep drive that required a new 11-88 random number, and requires looking up the DEEP chart for the ballpark of the home team to yield either a home run or a deep drive with runners advancing.

K - the batter strikes out.

W - the batter walks.

HPB - the batter is hit by a pitch and goes to 1st base.

Out - all the numbers higher than the HPB number up to 88 are an out.

OPS - the On-Base percentage is provided just to give an idea of how good the player is overall when setting your line-up for the team with better hitters first.

Cht - is used on out charts to indicate if the player is a right-handed power hitter (RP), normal or non-power hitter (RN), switch power (SP) or normal (SN) and finally left-handed power (LP) or normal (LN).  If none of these six are listed, assume an SN or if there is just a P assuming it is an SP.

vs. LHP/RHP - you only need to refer to these numbers if an 11-14 (normally a hit) or 85-88 (normally an out) is drawn on either the batter or pitcher card. The number to the left of the dash indicates an adjustment if the batter is facing a left-handed pitcher, so Ozzie Albies kills left handed pitching and the 85 / indicates that any result of 85-88 changes from an out to a single with runners advancing two bases. On the other hand, he does not hit as well against right-handed pitching so the number to the right of the dash, 12, indicates an 11-12 is changed form a single to a strikeout if he is facing a right-handed hitter.

The two columns to the right are provided just add suggested batting order from 1-9 against left-handed starting pitchers and the next column against right-handed pitcher.

Ball Park Factors Updated for 2022 Statis-Pro Season

The following are the updated ballpark factors to use if playing Statis-Pro games with 2022 projected cards. When the random number on a Statis-Pro Batters card results in DEEP, then a second Random Number is drawn and looked up based on the home team on the chart below.

Note that last year the cards were set up so that a DEEP drive had a 50-50 change of being a homer, however, this year the cards are set up so a DEEP drive only has a 1 in 3 chance on average (an 11-35 is a homer in a neutral park, and 36-88 is a deep drive caught but if anyone is on base they advance. The best for a pitcher is Oakland, where only an 11 is a home run and 12-88 is caught. The best hitters' park in Colorado, where an 11-87 is a home run, and only an 88 is caught for an out.

Platoon Adjustment for all MLB Batters on Rosters (Statis-Pro Game)

The following is a list of all batters currently on MLB batters and the adjustment in the free Statis-Pro baseball game when they bat against a left-handed or right-handed pitcher. A detailed explanation and extra cards occurs in the previous post.

Keep in mind the best adjustment is an 85, which means a batter converts an 85-88 from an out to a single with runners advancing two bases. The next best is 86 (means 86-88) etc. The worst adjustment is 14 (meaning 11-14 turns a singled to a strikeout) while 13 is second best at 11-13, etc. If no number appears before a / it means no adjustment either way against LHP, and if no number appears after it, that means no adjustment against RHP.

Here are all players on MLB rosters with their position, team, whether they hit left-, right- or both-(switch), their main position and the adjustment to results based on if they are batting against a LHP or RHP.

Platoon Left/Right Batting for MLB Players Not on Rosters

With the strike and work, we have not yet produced the updated free 2022 Statis-Pro Baseball cards based on projected stats. The first step with batters is actually the last thing on the card, the platoon adjustment. These are based on how much better or worse a player does against left-handed and right handed pitchers then he does overall.

If you are new to Statis-Pro, each at bat consists in starting with a dice roll or card flip from 2-12 that determines whether it is on the pitcher's card or the batter's card. On either card, hits are the lower numbers between 11-88 on the next card/ or dice. Numbers from 11-18 are almost always hits, and many numbers between 21-28 are hits and a few in the 30s. Higher numbers are usually outs or strikeouts, with some walks in between. An out occurs on almost all rolls in the 80s (from 11-88).

For an example of how this works, take the example of Nick Ahmed in the seventh row below.  We base each players' adjustment on whichever season he had the most plate appearances between 2019 and 2021.

That year in 625 plate appearances, Ahmed's OPS was .752. However, he killed left-handed pitching with an OPS of .933, which gives him the maximum adjustment of "85 / 12" to the left of the diagonal, meaning against left-handed pitching a random number of 85-88 (whether on his card or the pitcher's card facing him) is changed from an Out to a single with any runners on base advancing two bases.

On the flip side, his OPS was 60 points lower against right-handed pitchers then overall (.691 vs. .752) therefore the 12 to the right of the diagonal "85 / 12" means if facing a right-handed pitcher an 11 or 12 is changed from a hit to a strikeout.

The next blog will list players on rosters at the start of the 2022 season, but these are here because some of these players are just injured and will return to a roster. We also have the standard adjustment for any new players. A new left-handed batter strikes out on an 11 or 12 against a LHP, but gets a hit on an 88 against a RHP.  A right-handed batter gets a hit on an 88 against a LHP, but strikes out on an 11 against a RHP. A new switch-hitter (sometimes listed a "B" for both) bats the same against both LHP and RHP. Our next blog will list these adjustments for players actually on rosters.

Keep in mind that for the low numbers the number represents the numbers turned into strikeouts from 11 up to that number. So 11 is just 11, but 12 means 11-12, 13 means 11-13 and the worst adjustment for a batter is 14 which means he strikes out against 11-14.

Likewise, the high numbers indicated the adjustment to a single and runner advances two bases from that number up to 88. So 88 means the batter gets a single with runners advancing two bases only on an 88, but 87 means 87-88, 86 means 86-88 and 85 means 85-88.
