Box Scores and Scoresheets from Statis-Pro Giants-Pirates Split

The Giants Statis-Pro cards look really good. They were playing as a relegated team due to low expectations, but after smashing the Phillies and then splitting with the Pirates and playing incredible baseball in their actual MLB season, they are added to our main season. Here are the box scores and scoresheets from the home and home with the Pirates. In our season tracker, both Pennsylvania teams are 17-25 and not in the playoff picture if the season ended today.

Each of the 10 teams play each other in a 2-game series and play 2 of the 5 relegated teams in a 2-game series. The relegated Rockies and Nats still have two series to play, and the Marlins will play the Cubs in 2 games to finish the relegated season for now. If the Marlins or another relegated team moves into the regular teams, then their opponents would play the rest of the teams and any last opponents would play an extra relegated team.

If our playoffs started today, the Mets would visit the Braves with the winner getting the Dodgers, and the Diamondbacks would visit the Brewers with the winner getting the Giants.

1st Use of Large Scoresheet - Giants and Pirates Statis-Pro Results

We finally went to large scoresheets.

Results to follow.

Giants Statis-Pro Dominate Phillies 7-2 and 8-5

Follow-up on our last blog, we printed out the Giants cards to set them up for their first game against the Phillies. the line-up shows the card that will be in the line-up against righties on top, and then if another player will start against lefties we put the top of that card above them. For example, JD Davis will bat 5th against righties, but Darin Ruf will bat 5th against lefties.

Below that the A through D is the starting rotation, while the 1 to 10 is the order of the relievers strating with the closer.

Red Hot Giants Last "Relegated" Team to Debut in Statis-Pro

Next in our Statis-Pro season we will debut our San Francisco cards. The Giants were one of five relegated teams, but seem pretty sure to join the Marlins in expanding to give us a 12 team league based on their play to date. That would just leave the Rockies, Nationals and Cardinals playing relegated. The relegated teams in our league rotate playing as one "team" slot, so each of our 12 teams play one of the relegated teams in a 2-game series.

For starters we print out the Giants' batter on pages 73-75 of our google doc of batters cards and pages 73-75 of this google doc or pitchers cards. An optional in season sheet we provide is this updated sheet of which players are playing better, worse or not at all. If you want to use this option, the players with an x by them (Aeverson Arteaga) are not used because they were not on the sheet. A player who is red on that sheet gets a "--" which means he is playing much worse and opposing pitcher's PB increases by one. A player in green on that sheet gets a "+" like LaMonte Wade that gets to lower the opposing pitcher's PB by 1.

The big improvement for the Giants are new excellent hitting cards for catcher Blake Sabol and shortstop Casey Schmitt. The sheet gives you the home run range and speed to make up the new card.

The pitchers are below and also marked based on the sheet.

The checklist of players from that sheet are listed below.

"Relegated" Marlins Win Again, Giants Next

In our Statis-Pro season we relegate five teams in the league to make for a 5-team league. However, we do keep a "relegated" column and let each of the 10 teams in the league play one series against on of the relegated teams so we get a look at their cards.

The five relegated teams right now are St. Louis, Colorado, Washington, San Francisco and Miami.

The Miami Marlins cards look strong, and they just won a series 4-2 against Arizona with wins of 6-3 and 5-4.

The last two teams with a spot for relegated opponents are the two Pennsylvania teams and they will both play the last relegated team to play - the Giants.

If the Giants also play well we could consider expanding from 10 to 12 teams since both are also playing well in the real MLB. Here.are the Marlins scoresheet.

Phenom Bobby Miller Creates All PB2-8 Dodgers Rotation CRUSH Cubs 14-1 & 5-0

As if the Dodgers needed any more Statis-Pro starting pitching, we debut the new card for the new sensation Bobby Miller, who now gives them a complete rotation of PB 2-8 pitchers. What's more, Dodger Stadium is no longer a pitcher's paradise, meaning these pitchers are accomplishing their PB 2-8s without the line at the bottom that on the opponent's batting card's lowest OUT number is a home run.

Because we throw the No. 1 and No. 4 pitchers in one double header and the No. 2 and 3 in the next double header, Clayton Kershaw and Bobby Miller will pitch the Dodgers 7th Series of the season - this one against the Cubs. That is a neat match-up because that features the Statis-Pro surprise starter of the year - Mark Leiter Jr. - the nephew of Al Leiter. Mark is actually leading our Statis-Pro league in ERA through three stars for each pitcher. We will add results of the two games below the picture of the Dodgers killer rotation in our game.

The Dodgers won the most lopsided series of our season. Bobby Miller threw 7 shutout innings in his debut 5-0 win. Clayton Kershaw through 7 innings allowing 1 run in a 14-1 blowout.

Things tend to even out in Statis-Pro. Mark Leiter Jr. entered the game leading our league with a 0.48 ERA in three starts (1 earned run allowed in 18 2/3 inning). The Dodgers tagged him for five runs in 1 2/3 innings to raise it to a much more reasonable but still strong 2.66 ERA. So far this actual MLB season teams are scoring an average 4.64 runs per game, starting pitchers are averaging 5 2/3rd innings and have a 3.68 ERA. In Statis-Pro so far the averages are almost exactly the same - 4.60, 5 1/3, 3.93.

The Dodgers move solidly into first place with the lopsided sweep.

High Payroll Padres Can't Win in Statis-Pro Either - Alcantara Faces Fellow Dominican Tatis

After wrapping up the Dominican Republic's World Basic Classic Statis-Pro season with an incredible 1-hitter, Sandy Alcantara faced his leadoff hitter from that team - Fernando Tatis Jr. - to start the Marlins vs. Padres doubleheader.

He gave up only 1 earned run in 7.1 innings, but both he and Padres starter Yu Darvish (7 innings, 2 earned runs) were victimized by errors as the game was tied 4-4 going into the 9th. Josh Hader, with the most dominant pitching card in the Statis-Pro 2023 projected cards, then gave up another unearned run to allow a 5-4 Marlins win.

The first screen shot is the grid of games, where the Padres continue to struggle at 16-26 just as they are below .500 in the real game despite the third highest salary in baseball.

The second screen shot was the key point in the first game. Darvish was facing Bryan De La Cruz, left it on his hitting card, and then the RN 57 shown resulted in a home run since Padres pitchers and others who benefit from a pitchers park allows a Home Run on the lowest number in the batter's out range.

The third screen shot was the final at bat of the game. Marlins reliever Steven Okert has a + indicating we have increased his PB 2-7 to a PB 2-8 as one of the pitchers with the most improved ERA's this year. The Marlins led 8-3 after eight innings to wrap up a 3-game sweep credit unless they lost the actual game.  Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth led off with singles however, and after two strikeouts an two walks it was 8-4 and Tatis was at the plate with a chance for a grandslam HR and Okert reduced to a PB 4-7. However, Okert got the strikeout on another adjustment in this year's game - if a result of 77-84 appears on a pitcher's card then the result of an OUT is changed to a strikeout.

Padres lose another series, this one 5 games to 1 in the books - as reflected on the grid we keep on this sheet.
