Defensive minded 1990 Ball State was losing but controlling the tempo against 3-point shooting offensive-minded 2025 BYU, keeping the game within 40-45 with only 12 minutes (20 possessions) to play.
Then they went on the decisive 13-0 run the next 6 possessions, capped by Curtis Kidd grabbing an offensive rebound and kicking it out to Billy Butts, who drained a 3-pointer to make it 53-45.
Ball State held on for a 72-69 win to complete the top half of the Sweet 16.
