Reds Phenom De La Cruz Statis-Pro Card Debut in stunning beat down of Giants

The story of recent weeks, Elly De La Cruz of the Reds, debuts in our Statis-Pro game. So far he is destroying right-handed pitching and struggling against left-handed pitching, thus the 14/86 indicates in the first game against the Giants RHP Logan Webb he converts 86-88 into singles with runners advancing two bases. in the second game against LHP Sean Manaea an 11-14 is converted to a strikeout.

Compared to the vet on the team, Joey Votto, he does strike out a ton (38-66) and does not walk much (67-68) but other than that you couldn't get much better than him on speed (A/A), fielding (next to best CD4 at both shortstop and third base) and as a switch hit power hitter (SP) he gets a hit or at least a deep drive that usually goes out in hitter friendly Cincinnati on 11-37. In Cincinnati an 11-63 is a homer on a deep drive, but for the second game in San Francisco only a 11-33 will go out.

Results follow below.

As exciting as using De La Cruz's cards was, and fun as it was to have him go 4 of 10 with a homer in his first 2-game series, there was no way to anticipate the absolute beat down they would give the Giants in his first two game series. As we show on our game tracker, the Reds were 7-23 in our season, before a 6 game to 0 sweep of the Phillies and now this 5 game to 1 win over the Giants to improve to 18-24 in our league. The 7-1 win in the opener counted as a 3 games to 0 sweep due to leading by more than 5 runs after 8 innings, however the 10-3 win did not because they needed to score four runs in the ninth so only led 6-3 after 8 innings.

The Giants meanwhile dropped from 8-4 and a tie in first place to 9-9 and tied for 4th place with the Mets, who coincidentally are their next series on the grid.

Here is the tracker schedule for the Reds. I do have typo on their last game - they won it 7-1 not 7-0 so will fix.

And here it is for the Giants.

Top 2 Statis-Pro ERAs- Burnes vs. Strider; Braves 1.80 ERA Finally Goes Up

The Braves starting rotation entered our Statis-Pro game with a microscopic 1.80 ERA, and our first game featured the two PB 2-9 cards with the best ERAs in our Statis-Pro game to date. the Braves Spencer Strider entered the game with our league's best 0.79 ERA in three starts, vs. the Brewers Corbin Burnes in second with a 1.31 ERA (1st photo below shows the initial set-up on that game)

Rnk    TOP ERAs              Team    IP       ER     ERA      TmW     TmL

The Records indicate the team records for those starts with our league rule that each game counts as a 3-game series, which is only a sweep if the winner led by 5+ after 8 innings without using their closer.

The Brewers and Braves continued to be the two teams reversing roles in the Statis-Pro game, with the Brewers dominated and Braves just having a decent season - while the reverse is true in the actual MLB season where the Braves are dominant. Burns gave another great performance with 1 run allowed in 7 innings to actually lower his ERA one point to 1.30 and take over the league lead.

Strider finally left a pitch up and outside his pb 2-9 range in the 6th and it was deposited for a 3-run homer. With that Strider left the game having his ERA increased from 0.79 to 1.93. Here were the Braves first 12 starts that resulted in the 1.80 ERA, but their pen and offense have not been as good.

Brewers won the first game 8-1, but the Braves rallied in the nightcap for a 6-5 win. This also took a rare homer off a PB2-9. The second photo shows the fateful card flip. Devin Williams left a pitch up on Ozzie Albies, who hit a DEEP drive. The card shown is the "28" random number that meant the deep drive went out of the park for a home run - as 11-35 is a homer in Milwaukee (the exact average ballpark), while a 36-88 would have been a deep drive caught.

The Brewers stay in 3rd place in our Statis-Pro season (better than they were last year or this year in real MLB play) while the Braves remaining in 4th place (worse than they were last year or this year in real MLB play) - so the two teams have reversed in our game.

Each team's 22 scheduled games are listed - so all of Arizona's first - with a home-and-home against each of the other nine teams and two of the five relegated teams. If no score is yet listed, the team still needs to play that home and home series. a z in front of a team name is for the two series each team plays against one of the five relegated teams, not currently in the league. If we do get far enough into the schedule, it is possible one of the relegated teams would be added as an 11th team and play the other 10 (the Marlins the most logical now), but that would only be if we finished these games.

If we finish in time, we might add the Marlins to the 10 main teams. If we did that, they would play the seven teams they have yet to play in 2-game series at the end of the season, and Arizona, /Chicago and San Diego (the three they have played) would get one more series against a relegated team.

Box Scores and Scoresheets from Statis-Pro Giants-Pirates Split

The Giants Statis-Pro cards look really good. They were playing as a relegated team due to low expectations, but after smashing the Phillies and then splitting with the Pirates and playing incredible baseball in their actual MLB season, they are added to our main season. Here are the box scores and scoresheets from the home and home with the Pirates. In our season tracker, both Pennsylvania teams are 17-25 and not in the playoff picture if the season ended today.

Each of the 10 teams play each other in a 2-game series and play 2 of the 5 relegated teams in a 2-game series. The relegated Rockies and Nats still have two series to play, and the Marlins will play the Cubs in 2 games to finish the relegated season for now. If the Marlins or another relegated team moves into the regular teams, then their opponents would play the rest of the teams and any last opponents would play an extra relegated team.

If our playoffs started today, the Mets would visit the Braves with the winner getting the Dodgers, and the Diamondbacks would visit the Brewers with the winner getting the Giants.

The Giants took the first game 4-0, then the Pirates won 8-4. We link to the Baseball Reference page for each player.
