Statis-Pro Baseball Pitcher Cards Projected

For our baseball readers, we have completed the projected pitching cards for each team, which you can access by clicking this link. We will display the ridiculously good Los Angeles Dodgers rotation as our example. Note, we did correct a formula the morning of April 1 that updated PB numbers for a number of pitchers.

For those of you who do not know the game, here is what each column means.

Number next to the team (LAD for LA Dodgers in this case) is our suggested pitching rotation (1-6, though we just use the first 4 when playing our games) and then No. 10 is the ace reliever and the relievers cards are rated from best to worst.

The PB number is the key to the Statis-Pro game as it is a 2-12 dice roll (or card flip) that determines if they pitcher keeps the action on his card (in his range) or puts in on the batter's card where extra base hits can occur.

PB 2-9 means a pitcher in the top 5 percent of all pitchers in WAR per inning pitched, and the Dodgers have a rare PB2-9 starting pitchers - meaning all those pitchers keep the action on their card 83% of the time with only 10, 11 or 12 rolls ending up on the batters card. Decades ago it was rare to have a PB2-9 starter, but starters went 9 innings. Now there are more, but it is partly because they only have to throw hard for 6 innings typically (see max innings).

PB2-8 is next best, then PB2-7 is still strong, and PB 47 is average controlling the action exactly half the time, and then down to weaker pitchers.

After that the ranges tell what happens if the action is kept on the pitcher's card, and a random number or two 8-sided dice rolls from 11-88. So 11 is always an infield single then the next lowest numbers a single to left, center or fight field then...

BK is a balk.

K is a strikeout

BB is a walk

CD-2 is an out unless the runners are on base, then the catcher must make a clutch play like preventing a passed ball or fielding a ball in front of the plate.

WP is an out unless runners are on base - then it is a wild pitch.

Out is an out.

The next three numbers calculate when a pitcher will get tired.

SR is a starting pitcher's endurance, and it drops 1 every time the pitcher allows a hit, walk or hits a batter, as well as every time an earned run scores.

RR is the same for a relief pitcher.

IP is the maximum number of innings a pitcher can pitch.

Fielding is the chance a pitcher makes and error or a clutch defensive play, but at this point every pitchers starts average until we update fielding.

65,721 of 24,400,000 (99.7 percentile) KenPom Bracket Based on Top 25 AdjD and Top 40 AdjO

The system bracket based on the fact that all national champs have had both a top 25 defense (AdjD) and top 40 offense (AdjO) at www.kenpom.com was published March 16 and now ranks in the 99.7 percentile - or the 65,721 most accurate of the 24.4 million submitted to ESPN.

On March 16 we called it the only system that we noted has "never missed,"

It correctly predicted that there was such a gap between the 1-seeds and everyone else that for only the 2nd time in 40 years, all 1-seeds would be in the Final 4. Tennessee actually was close to the other four, but well behind Houston who they would have had to beat to make it to the Final 4. There were 13 teams this year that qualified to be possible champs with a top 25 defense and top 40 offense, but their was a giant gap after the top five as  you can see from the graph of the formula.

We hate the ESPN scoring system calculation of the Final 4 games counting as much 16 first round games, and the championship game counts as much as all 32 first round games, but it is possible the system could get all of them as it has Duke beating Houston and Florida beating Auburn.

A perfect team would obviously be a team that was ranked No. 1 in both offense and defense, so we give 50 points per each and then since defense proves a bit more important than offense we subtract 1 point for every spot further down on offense and 1.6 points down for every spot on defense. Therefore while St. John's was No. 1 in the more important defense for 50 points, their No. 66 offensive rating gave them a -15 (65 points less than a perfect 50) so they were only ranked 22nd best and the one 1- or 2-seed that did not look close to an Elite team and thus the system correctly picked 3-seed Texas Tech for that spot.

The system picked 27 of 32 first round wins - which took picking 3 upsets correctly in #9 Baylor, #11 Drake and #12 Colorado State.

After the 2nd round still had 11 of 16 teams correct

As you can see from the bracket - the system picked all Elite 8 and Final 4 teams correctly.

It picks Duke to beat Houston and Florida to beat Auburn - although we actually subjectively picked Florida over Duke in the championship, and based on plays so far we might should have stuck to our numbers because Duke has looked more dominant than Florida in the system. Here is the bracket posted March 16 with winners added by ESPN.

KenPom Off/Def System 88,000th of 24,000,000 brackets or 99.6 percentile

On March 16 we laid out the only system that we noted has "never missed," and that is the system based on a team needing to have high level balance - a top 25 defense at www.kenpomcom and a top 40 offense. We pointed out in more than 20 years since the kenpom system was developed, EVERY champion was a kenpom top 25/top40 team.

With Houston win we moved up to 88,000th or 99.6 percentile.

It will happen again, and the system we developed based on who has the highest level balance between offense and defense is the top system this year - in the 99.3 percentile.

The system picked 27 of 32 first round wins - which took picking 3 upsets correctly in #9 Baylor, #11 Drake and #12 Colorado State.

After the 2nd round still had 11 of 16 teams correct

Picked all eight teams correctly to go to the Elite 8 - with 3-seed Iowa State being the correct upset pick. This is where the system flagged 2-seed St. John's as not an Elite team because it was not balanced between offense and defense. St. John's defense was 1st, but offense was only 66th - so well outside the top 40 requirement to ne a contender.

The final 4 is chalk, as i said this year was the biggest gap between the four 1-seeds and everyone else, and if Auburn beats Michigan State it will be the 2nd time in 40 years that all four 1-seeds made the final 4.

Picked Saturday's winners in Florida and Duke - and has Auburn and Houston winning Sunday as we noted this was a year that the 1-seeds were way ahead of the rest.

More important, the two teams we picked in the system as our champion and runner-up both won Saturday to advance to the Final Four. If Florida does go all the way and Duke is runner-up the system would shoot even higher. Here is the bracket released then.

Our KenPom Bracket 99th Percentile - But in Danger

Our KenPom bracket is in the top 1%, 252,708 of 2,400,000 - but it hangs in the balance with the bracket's eventual champ Florida in danger of losing in the Elite 8. Since the value of wins doubles every round, the champ losing in the Elite 8 kills off any chance of a strong showing. Here is the bracket as Florida tries to rally!

Duke Moves Up to 13th all-time, Florida to 18th

Duke's sweet 16 team moves them up to 13th all-time and Florida's win moves them up to 18th all-time due to the slight adjustment before their Value Add Basketball Game player cards are finalized.

The are the top two of 20 teams, though Auburn can also still move up as they keep playing in real life.

This year's Duke team is still only the second best Duke team in the game, as the Duke 2001 team is still playing in our all-time Final 4 and up to 8th in our all-time rankings - making them the slight surprise Final Four team as the other Final Four teams are the top three ranked in UCLA 1972 and 1975, and Indiana 1976.

While the 1970s have the top three spots, the decades are otherwise even with only the 1980s and 1950s lagging with only one of the top 25 all-time teams right now. The teams by decade are:

2020s - 4 top 25 teams

2010s - 3

2000s - 5

1990s - 3

1980s  - 2

1970s - 4

1960s - 4

1950s - 1

Here are the all-time rankings starting with the 20 new teams just added, who have not played in our game.

Duke Debuts as 17th Greatest of All-Time; 20 New Teams Added

Duke's current team debuts as the 17th greatest all-time team to lead 20 new Value Add Basketball Game teams about to be added.  Florida's current team debuts at 22nd all time, and Auburn 48th of all time. Those three also boast the three greatest players this season according to www.kenpom.com, with the cards for Duke's Cooper Flagg, Auburn's Johni Broome and Florida's Walter Clayton featured below. All 20 teams will be added to the Value Add Basketball Game link today.

Here is the list of all games played to date using the Value Add Basketball Game.

Half of the new teams rank in the bottom 20 teams in the game, but had strong tournament appearances and did not yet have a team in the game.

Below the ranking of the new 20 teams, we list the rest of the teams in the game, and how they have done playing other great teams in the game and their current ranking - which we adjust based on game results using a formula very similar to www.kenpom.com.
