GM 3 RESULTS ADDED - Phils Force Game 3 for last semifinal spot - Nola vs Peralta (Williams and Harder our)

Our first 5 NL Statis-Pro playoff series were decided 2 games to 0, but the Phillies won 5-4 in 10 innings to tie their series with the Brewers 1 game a pice and put Aaron Nola back in the game.

While the Brewers no. 3 starter Peralta is still a PB 2-8 like Nola, both of the Brewers PB 2-9 relievers, Williams and Hader need to rest for the decider. Here are the scoresheet for games 1 and 2. We will add Game 3 at the bottom of the blog. The winner gets the Padres in one semi, while the Braves play the Dodgers in the others.

Hader allowed no hits in the 9th or 10th, but with a runner starting on second lost due to a balk and wild pitch to allow a 3rd and deciding game below.

Game 3 below

Yelich hit a 2-runner homer in the third inning, and with a depleted bullpen three Brewers pitchers made it hold up for a 2-1 win to advance to the semifinals vs the Padres.

Peralta put in a great outings but can only pitch up to 5 innings and the only other pitcher remaining with an above average PB was Cousins.

Lauer - who can start - brideged the two pitchers with 2.1 shutout innings. When he allowed hit first hit - a 1-out double in the 8th, Cousins get in to strikeout Harper and Schwarber (who homered earlier) to end the threat. He then did not allow a ball out of the infield in the 9th for the save.

Dodgers beat Cards, semifinal rematch with Braves with Freeman on their side

The 8-seed Cardinals missed a chance for a Game 1 upset of the Dodgers, wasting lefty Matz's 5.2 inning, 2-run performance for a 2-1 loss. The 1-seeded Dodgers then completed the best-of-3 sweep when their first 5 batters had extra base hits in an 11-0 win.

Several of the Dodgers dominate righty pitching but are not as strong against lefties (Betts strikes out on 11-13 vs lefties with his 13/88), freeman 14/87, Smith 14/87. In the first game Freeman hit a DEEP drive that would have been out of St. Louis or Atlanta but was caught in Dodgers Stadium, and Betts hit a DEEP drive and then drew a 27, missing the 11-26 Dodger Stadium homer range by one.

However Freeman later hit a Homer after turning a double play due to his cd4, and Betts hit a "little league homer" when his second double if the series skipped past leftfielder O'Neill and with Betts OBR speed he rounded the bases.

The 11-0 blowout also let the Dodgers rest their whole pen except for Price finishing the last 3 innings, while the Braves will need to rest their 2nd, 3rd and 4th best relievers Matzek, Minter and O'Day due to a hard fought series against the Mets. We have a pitcher rest of he pitches to at least 5 batters or pitches in a 2nd straight game. Price will need to miss games 1 and 2 since he pitched to more than 10 batters, but he is only the 7th best reliever card for the Dodgers.

Game 1 will be the Braves Anderson vs Kershaw, game 2 would be the Braves Ynoa vs. Heaney and if necessary a Game 3 (which oddly has not happened yet in the tournament) would be Fried against Buehler.

If you wonder how Kershaw could be No.3 in any rotation just look at the pb2-8 cards for both Buehler (7 ip, 2 hits, 1 run, 0 walks, 11 strikeouts) and Urias (6 shutout innings).

Arenado Homers off Buehler in Statis-Pro while Brew Crew leads Cards 6-0 on TV

Finally time to take a break for Statis-Pro today and set up our last two teams - the 2-seed Brewers and 1-seed Dodgers.

Below I show how I cut out and figured out the Dodgers line-up and rotation. Then settled in watching the Cards on TV losing 6-0 to the Brewers, but in my game Arenado hit a 2nd inning homer off Buhler to make it 1-0. The Cards had to play in and crushed the 9-seed Marlins, but that means their No. 3 starter Matz is on the mound trying for the upset.

Brewers are on deck and will get the 7-seed Phillies, who likewise had a playing - beating the Cubs but now on their 3rd pitcher vs. the Brewers.

Results to follow:

Padres win after Statis-Pro z-play Injuries, Ejections

A couple of fun results from the old original z-play charts we will usually use - as well as the new deep drive range on the cards. Some old and new.

Padres 1st baseman Hosmer lined a ball off Giants first baseman Belt injuring him for the rest of the series.. Then in the second game, the old z-play 14 came up , with Yaz hitting a slow roller down the first base line and being ruled safe on a single, resulting in Padres 1st baseman Hosmer, catcher Nola and relief pitcher Suarez all being ejected. The chances of these unusual plays actually happening are low with modern replay rules, but the real point is they make you put additional players in the game like would happen over the course of a season.

On the new rule front, the Giants hits 3 deep drives off Yu Darvish, but the Padres large stadium (only 11-18 homer, 21-88 deep fly out) held all three and Darvish went 7 innings allowing only 2 baserunners, a single and a walk, to lead a 4-0 shutout.

In the second game the Giants trailed 4-2 but put runners on 2nd and 3rd with 2 outs, but Padres ace reliever Rogers acme in to get the four out save to end the series 2 games to 0 to advance.

All 2022 Projected Batters (49 pages, 9 cards to a page) and All 2022 Projected Pitchers (62 pages, 9 cards to a page) is the only other thing needed to play the game, though more detailed instructions appear in this Statis-Pro baseball Game Rules.

As the bracket at the bottom shows, the Padres advance to the semifinal where they will likely play the 2-seed Brewers (whose No. 1 and 2 starters face Phillies No. 3 and 4 starters). Likewise the Braves semifinal opponent is most likely the Dodgers (whose No. 1 and 2 starters face the Cardinals No. 3 and 4 starters). The opening round "playin" games gave the low seeds this disadvantage BUT if either could pull an upset then they would have their No. 1 and 2 starters in the semifinal against the 3 and 4 starters of the Braves or Padres.

Padres vs. Giants Statis-Pro Coming - Verlander competing for most exceeding projected card

Swamped at work - so apologize for no updates though we are in a more dead period of just trying out the Statis-Pro projected cards so wouldn't have nearly as many clicks as when we unveiled the new cards.

Tonight we finally broke free to set back up for another game in our short NL Statis-Pro tournament to get a look at their cards before returning to our AL Statis-Pro season (we rotate years).

Then we are going to review which players are most improved from the 2022 Projected cards.

All 2022 Projected Batters (49 pages, 9 cards to a page) and All 2022 Projected Pitchers (62 pages, 9 cards to a page) is the only other thing needed to play the game, though more detailed instructions appear in this Statis-Pro baseball Game Rules.

For example, Justin Verlander might have the best  PB 2-7 card in the game, with only 11-18 for hits allowed and only two walks - 55-56. However, the PB 2-7 (third best possible range of 7) is based on a projected 3.39 ERA. In fact, even after being beaten up by the Mariners Friday, his actual ERA this year is 2.02 - so he would have the top range - a PB 2-9 - based on his stats so far this year.

As can see, plenty of 60-day DL players excluded from the Giants - Padres tournament series this weekend.

Scherzer vs. Fried Pitching Duel

Almost identical 7 inning outings for Fried (3 hits, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts) but one more hit allowed and run allowed for Scherzer (4 hits, 2 runs, 2 walks, 7 strikeouts) and the Braves win the first game 2-1 the advanced with a 8-4 win in the nightcap.

We thought Scherzer could not pitch due to his real life injury, but our league rules are we use players on the 60-day DL and he is not.

Segura cleared bases 2x for game winners, lefty vs lefty changes Heyward hit to K to eliminate Cubs

The No. 10 and last seeded Cubs nearly pulled two upsets, but Jean Segura cleared the bases in the Phils final at bat in both games to take the best-of-3 series. The Phillies advance to play the 2-seed Brewers, but with the disadvantage of their two PB 2-8 aces Nola and Wheeler being used against the Cubs as they face the Brewers incredible rotation. Here is the tournament of best-of-3-series as we get to know the Statis-Pro cards for the top 10 NL teams since we are playing the full season on the AL side this time.

In Game 1 Marcus Stroman pitched a brilliant 6 inning, 2-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 1 walk to hand a 1-0 lead to his bullpen. However in the 10th Camargo walked, pinch runner Muzzotti stole second, went to third on a sac fly and scored on an infield single to tie the game 1-1. Segura then hit a 2-run homer to make it 3-1 in the bottom of the 8th and it held up for the win in game 1.

In game 2, it was the Phillies set up man and closer who failed, with Frazier's 3-run homer capping a 4-run 8th to give the Cubs a chance to force a game 3 with a 5-3 lead. However with two outs in the bottom of the 8th the Phils rallied to cut it to 5-4 with 2 on and 2 outs and then Segura drilled a clutch batting (BD) 2-run double.

The Cubs did get 2nd and 3rd in the top of the 9th with Jason Heyward, already with 3 hits in the game, at the plate. At this point it actually worked out for the Phils that their top two relievers, both right handed, were knocked out in the 8th inning. That meant Ranger Suarez, a lefty, was in the game. The random number was a 14, a game tying or game winning single against a righty, but Heyward's 14/87 indicates an 11-14 is changed to a strikeout against a leftie pitcher (while 87-88 is changed to a single runners advance 2 bases against a righty).

Goldschmidt 3 HRs Power Cards in NL 2022 Opening Series

4 Series into our Statis-Pro AL Season, but with our NL Commissioner swamped with work for sometime, we decided to get a look at the NL Statis-Pro Cards with a 10-team tournament. We seeded based on Nate Silver's current projections as of May 17 to get this bracket with best-of-3 series. We do not use a player's Statis-Pro card if he is on the 60-day Disabled List.

It looked like our first series might be a tough draw fro the St. Louis Cardinals because the Miami Marlins have two PB 2-8 starting pitchers at the top of their rotation in the first series to determine who would play the No. 1 seed LA Dodgers.

However, that proved no problem for Paul Goldschmidt, who homered against both of them - three homers total - to power the Cardinals to 8-1 and 5-0 wins. Perhaps the most impressive homer was by Dickerson - the Cardinals No. 9 batter - who had a DEEP drive which in Miami is only a homer on an 11-14 and he drew a 14 to sneak the drive out of the park.

Rendon & Angels Defense Blows Game to Rays, the Rendon HRs Power Sweep

The Angels weak defense misplaced four balls into hits on Clutch Defense plays  to lose 6-2 to the Rays.

CD 5 is a gold glove nominee level fielder, and CD 1 is the weakest fielder. Right fielder Taylor Ward (cd1) could not get to a double and 3rd baseman Anthony Rendon (CD2) could not get to a grounder that went down the line for a double in a 3-run 4th inning to make it 4-1.

In the 8th Rendon failed to get to another grounder that went for a single, then Mike Trout (CD2) could not get to a line drive to seal a 6-3 Angels win.

However, Rendon more than made up for it in the second game with a solo homer in the 6th to give the Angels a 2-1 win, then added a 3-run homer the next inning to seal a 6-1 lead at the end of 8th innings to make it a sweep. The Rays scored twice in the 9th to make the final 6-3, but the win is still a sweep since it was 5+ runs at the end of 8th.

Reid Detmers pitched a brilliant game - 5 innings (his Max IP) with 9 strikeouts and 0 walks. The sweep concluded the first 4 rounds for our 10 teams - and 8 of the 40 (20%) resulted in 5+ run sweeps.

Statis-Pro 1978 Fielding Charts, Injuries, Steals, Clutch Defense etc.

While we set up the new Fast Action Cards so you can get the results without the Statis-Pro fielding charts, we do still use these charts from the 1978 Statis-Pro game. There are more advanced charts, and in fact we added the Statis-Pro Advanced charts beneath these for Clutch Defense, Steals, Hit and Runs, Bunts, Runners Advancing and Hit & Run.

Hendriks Save, Pressley Rare blown Save Sinks Astros

The Astros and White Sox boast two of the best reliever cards in our game. In two pitcher duels, Hendriks wrapped up a 2-0 win for the Sox in the first game.

Pressly in turn seemed set to wrap up a 4-2 win for the Astros in the 9th. Tim Anderson had his 6th hit of the two games to start the inning, but Pressly had a strike out and Maldonado made a clutch defense catch of a foul ball for two outs.

Grandalz with perhaps the best eye in the game, the drew a walk. Pressly's RR is 3, so he was still a pb2-9 for the next batter Abreu. However Abreu's bloop single made it three baserunners to burn out his 3rd and final rr to reduce his PB to 2-8, and Anderson raced home and since baserunners allowed or runs lower the RR by one, that run pushed Pressly down another number to a pb2-7.

That was key because when the next batter Sheets came up the PB number was an 8, this on his card instead of Pressly's 2-7 card, and the result was a 3-run homer on his card to win the game as opposed to what would have been a strikeout on Pressly's card to end the game with an Astros win.

Statis-Pro baseball tops Value Add Basketball for 1st Time

Ever since we created the Value Add Basketball game a few years ago it has been our top blog month after month until now. While it is still first all-time with 59,000 visitors, our newest version of Statis-Pro Baseball has brought in more than 6,000 visitors the past 3 months (see last graphic) - still just more than one-tenth the All-time Value Add Basketball audience but actually 4 times the audience during those three months.

The middle graphic is of the only blog to pass the game for a month in the past - the blog from when covid shut down the NCAA tournament and we played in our.

Blue Jays Slug Past Indians into 1st Place

The Blue Jays surged into 1st place in a pack AL with a 14-10 mark, one game ahead of the Yankees, Red Sox and Twins.

The middle three Jays, Guerrero, Chapman and Gurriel, all homered but Chapman homer d twice and used his top clutch defense 5 to snag a line drive and turn it into a double play.

The Jays received 3-0 sweep credit for an 8-3 win, and the 2-1 credit for a 5-4 win despite Hernandez and Biggio colliding to allow a 2-run first inning double and miss the rest of the game.

Cleveland started the season well due to two starts by Shane Bieber, with perhaps the best starting pitcher card in the game. Since he pitches one out of every four games to make Cleveland better in the game than real life - where he has started only 1 out of every 10 games for them the last two years. As noted below, they are 5-1 in the game with him on the mound, 7-11 when someone else starts.

Here is the scoresheet and standings. The game log google sheet includes this running tabulation, which also notes the average runs per game has surged from 4.4 to 4.7 the last three series due to some really bad No. 3 and No. 4 pitchers (4.5 was the actual average last year) and 19.4% of all games are ending in "sweeps" (5-run win margin). In order:

Toronton 14-10   ---

NY Yankees 13-11   1

Minnesota 13-11

Boston 13-11

Cleveland 12-12 (when Bieber starts 5-1, if not 7-11)

LA Angels 9-9

Seattle 11-13

Houston 8-10

Tampa Bay 8-10

Chicago White Sox 7-11

Mariners Overcome Ejection, 4 Wind Blown HR and 5-0 Deficit in Fenway

Seattle watched four Red Sox wind blown homers (on DEEP card readings) that would have only left two other parks, and in the first inning the Mariners cleanup hitter France hit and apparent homer on a Z-play that was called foul, and he was the ejected for arguing.

Ok, we could use Z-play charts invented since instant replay came to baseball, but on our 1978 charts that was the fun play.

By the end of the third inning, the Mariners were down 5-0 in our series between our two teams with the worst records in real MLB play this year.

The Red Sox have been great in their first six Statis-Pro games, but the exciting young Mariners led by Julio Rodriguez rallied for 11 runs in the middle three innings, and when Arroyo hit into a double play with bases loaded escaped with an 11-10 win.

Rich Hill threw 6 scoreless innings in the nightcap and the Red Sox secured a split with 3-1 win as closer Barnes retired Rodriguez (4 of 10 in the series) to end the series.

All teams are within 4 games of each other in our season. Teams are averaging 4.6 runs per game (4.5 was the average last year) and 17% of our games have counted as sweeps for 5+ run wins).

Will see if Cleveland can stay in their surprise start with Lopez and Banks (and not Cy Young early favorite Bieber) going into Toronto to face a killer lineup in a hitters park.

Reverse Ranges on Card Just Mean A Blank Range

A fan pointed out what appeared to be an error in Wander Franco's card, with a backward range of 41-38 on strike outs. This gave me a good chance to clarify that when you see a backward range, it just means the calculation is that range should be blank - so Franco should never strike out on his own card.

For the rare batter with no strike out numbers on his card like Franco, here is the math on how many time he would strike out in 128 plate appearances in Statis-Pro games. If all 64 numbers came up once on the batters card and Franco has 0 on those 64 plate appearances, and then all 64 numbers come up once on an average pitcher's card with an average of 17 strikeouts, then Franco would strike out 17 times in 128 plate appearances or 13% of the time - much less than the current average of 23% of the time.

In fact, Franco has actually been to the plate almost exactly that many times in the real season - 131 - and has struck out even fewer with just 13 strikeout for less than 10% of all plate appearances. So on his card a 38 is a Deep drive that might be a homer, a 41 is a walk, but there are no strikeouts in between.

All 2022 Projected Batters (49 pages, 9 cards to a page) and All 2022 Projected Pitchers (62 pages, 9 cards to a page) is the only other thing needed to play the game, though more detailed instructions appear in this Statis-Pro baseball Game Rules.

Iconic Value Add Player Card for the Late, Great Bob Lanier (passed away Wednesday)

Kareem's quote in Airplane regarding the late, great Bob Lanier (the movie) - "The hell I don't. LISTEN KID. I've been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I'm out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes."

Bob Lanier passed away today at 73. He has one of the best player cards on any of our 136 great teams in the Value Add Basketball Game. Here is one of many stories on his passing - this one from the New York Post. His St. Bonnie's team is at the bottom of the blog.

I also included the scoresheet from when I pitted them against a great Maryland squad. As this blog details, Lanier scored 25 and grabbed 11 rebounds, but it wasn't enough as they fell ti Maryland 74-64.

Yankees in 1st in Statis-Pro, MLB and baseball tears

We decided to check and compare the results of our Statis-Pro results and results from the actual MLB season. So far we have played 30 games between the top 10 teams in the AL, which counts as 90 games based on our 5+ runs = 3-game sweep covered in this blog.

Since we relegate the five weakest teams in the league prior to the season, these 10 teams do not have the benefit of racking up wins against the bottom 5 teams. Therefore for an apples-to-apples comparison we compared each teams actual MLB record against only the other 9 top teams to get the first results listed below through 91 total games. The bottom set of standings are in our Statis-Pro games so far.

The first thing you will notice is the New York Yankees are in first place both in our Statis-Pro league and in the Major League Baseball Games against the other nine top teams in real baseball. One of those games lead to this CBS Evening News clip that you need to watch if you don't know that it is ok to cry in baseball.

The two teams that are way out of whack are Cleveland and Boston, who are both off to bad starts - in Boston's case a terrible start - in actual MLB baseball but have winning records in Statis-Pro. Part of this can be explained by the fact that we use a 4-man rotation - so Shane Bieber has pitched two of Cleveland's six actual games and Nathan Eovaldi the same for the Red Sox.

We will see if they hold up in games 7 and 8 with their 3rd and 4th best starters on the mound. Here are our next games.

After the Yankee focused post above, the Twins Sano hammered 3 homers to lead the Twins to a ridiculous 19-2 sweep to move them in front of the Yankees. However, Stanton homered twice and German allowed 1 hit in 6 innings en route to a 4-0 Yankees win in the nightcap that left the teams tied at 13-11.

As noted they actually have the two best records against the top 10 AL teams in real mlb play.

Kluber ejected, teammates throw shutout

Corey Kluber was ejected after giving up 4 walks in 2.1 innings as the Blue Jays took a 4-0 lead on a grandslam by leadoff hitter Hernandez.

On a z-play at that point the "12" in the original charts resulted in Kluber being ejected for arguing balls and strikes. Funny when the game plays out in a realistic like that, as opposed to a pitcher striking out 4 straight batters and then being ejected for arguing balls and strikes LOL.

The games were a mirror - as Hernandez batter leadoff and how heroics backed up a 6 inning, 0 run outing by Manoah for a 6-3 win.

In the second game it was the Rays leadoff hitter Josh Lowe with the batting heroics - 3 hits - while McClanahan threw 6 scoreless innings in a 3-0 Rays win to earn the split.

With no "sweep" 5-run wins in this series, there were 6 sweeps in 30 games during the first three rounds for 20% of games. The actual MLB average this year is 25%, but because our league relegates the bottom 5 teams, there are no chances to beat up on the week teams as the 10 are more balanced.

In fact, noone has a better record than 11-7 at this stage. As the tracker below the scoresheet shows no team is worse than 7-11 either. The average runs per game is 4.4, whereas last year it was 4.5.

Mariners and Astros Sweep Each Other

Right after the previous post noting only 4 of 26 games had been won by 5+ runs for a "sweep," we had a 2-game series in which each team blew out the other once for a "sweep."

Ray showed the Astros vulnerability against lefties with a 7-inning 3 hitter and Haniger had a Homer, double and single to lead a 14-2 Seattle win over Houston. That gave the Mariners credit for a 3 games to 0 edge.

However, Garcia the threw 6 shutout innings and because neither closer pitched in the first game blowout, Presley could pitch the 9th to wrap up a 7-0, 4 pitcher shutout. Correa's replacement at shortstop - only a CD2 as opposed to Carlos top cd5 but with pop in his bat - had 2 doubles in the win to secure the Astros Sweep for 3 games to 0 edge to make the series a 3-3 split.

One reason I like doing all 2 game series is I keep it simple with all of each team's relievers pitching one of the two games but not both - so you do get to see each of their cards in action, but not team is at a disadvantage in a series because they have tired relievers from the  previous series. This season I have pitcher the top 2 starters or the 3rd and 4th best starting pitchers for each team against each other. This works fine if you keep all teams with just as many games, but when I've let one team get ahead of others in games, I've had to pitch the 1st and 4th best starter or the 2nd and 3rd best to keep it even.

With 6 of our 26 games now 5+ run sweeps, that equals 71% of all series so far not being sweeps, just below the 75% in actual play this year.

Below is the score sheet with the player cards for those 4 players mentioned, and the the log if all games to date.

All Baseball Board Gamers - Consider 5+ Run Win = 3-Game Sweep

While this blog is a bit wonky, please consider the fun league rule I use that counts each game as a 3-game series. I suggest this rule not only for for those who play my Statis-Pro game or another Statis-Pro basic game or Advanced Statis-Por, but also for those who play All Star Baseball, APBA Baseball, Baseball the card game, Challenge The Yankees, Diceball, Dynasty League Baseball, Replay Baseball, Strat-O-Matic Baseball, Pocket Ballpark or Boardofdreams, or some other game I have not seen yet.

First, here are the reasons I believe the rule is fun, and then second I will cover the wonky part of why it will actually make your results even more accurate over time:

Reasons the 5+ = Sweep Rule Is Good to Use

It eliminates almost all boring games, because finishing off a 7-1 game can be boring, but knowing if you give up two runs to only win 7-3 costs the team a win (taking the series 2 games to 1 rather than 3 games to none) makes almost every game exciting.

Board gamers cannot play a higher enough volume of games - and the the margin of error is huge for a weak team to pull off 1-run games in a very short season and a teams margin of victory is a better predictor in a small number of games of how the team would do if you had time to play three times as many games for more accurate results.

My actual rule is to get a sweep the winning team must have led by 5 runs or more at the end of the 8th inning, without using their best reliever through that 8th inning (in other words, your closer cannot wrap up a sweep in the 8th). Using the score at the end of the 8th was also put in place rather than having a home team who won 6-2 in turn batting in the bottom of the 9th.

As covered in the next section - it is accurate to count a 5+ run lead as a 3-game sweep, and all other wins as a 2 games to 1 sweep.

Wonky Detail of all 110 3-game 2022 Season Series

At the bottom of this blog we list the scores of all 134 MLB Series (405 Games), though only 110 of the series were completed three game series - played from April 7 to May 7 listing the margin of victory for each game.

(Added note: a reader pointed out one month is too short a sample. I should have clarified initially ran 4 years of scores - almost 10,000 games - to calculate teams swept a 3-game series about 14% of the time and win by 5+ about 14%. I just like to run a check like the first month a year in case that ever changes - for example of teams started scoring 6 runs a game instead of the 4.5 from last year, I might find I need to change it to a 6+ run rule to keep it at 14% one year, but so far even with runs down a little the table below shows we are still at 14% using 5+).

The most important reason we check this is to see if the stats still show that a team has the same chance of winning a game by 5 or more runs then they do of sweeping a 3-game series, and once again that is the case. The most important factor is that 74% of games are decided by 4 runs or fewer.

That is within 1% of each team's chance of sweeping or being swept in a 3-game series. We looked at all 110 series of 3 games or more or if a series was more than 3 games we just counted the first 3 games of the series as the 3-game series. As you can see by the comparison, the bottom line is 74% of games are decided by 4 runs or fewer and 75% of 3-games series are split 2 games to 1 either way.

Reassured by the top table that it is just as hard to win by 5+ runs as it is to win all three games of a series - on the top table - we feel good about

Reassured that once again in 2022 winning a game by 5 or more runs is as difficult as winning a series 3 games to none, we are happy that our fun league rule that each counts as three runs.

As you can see from the bottom table, in our 28 actual games this year we have actually had only 6 sweeps so far, so only 21% of games rather than the expected 25% of games - but we expect that to even out as it was close to the 25% over the last couple of seasons we played.

Here is the breakdown by margin of victory for all actual MLB games this year, followed by the actual list of all games these first 31 days of the real MLB season. The table starts with the most lopsided road win, which was Cleveland going into Kansas City for a 17-3 win, and by the end of the list has the biggest home margin with a +21 for when the Cubs hosted the Pirates and won 21-0.
