The Dodgers simply needed to not lose by more than 4 runs to eliminate the Padres and claim the bye for the West Division (our Statis-Pro League has only an East and a West, no Central). You can play your own free Statis-Pro games by clicking here.
After six batters, that looked in doubt. Jacob Misiorowski struck out the first three Dodgers batters in the first. In the bottom of the inning, Christian Yelich singled. Then one of the only Hit & Run 2 (best rating) players left in the game, Caleb Durbin, executed the perfect hit and run with Yelich to put runners on the corners. Then rather than a 2-12 PB, a BD for clutch batting was drawn and Jackson Chourio went deep for a 3-run homer. It is rare a PB 2-9 will give up three runs in three batters since they control the action 83% of the time (on a PB 2-9 but not on a 10-12) but by using the Hit & Run and then drawing a clutch batting the PB 2-9 only impacted Yelich.
While the Dodgers only threw PB 2-8 and PB 2-9 pitchers the whole game (the best two pitcher ratings) the Brewers were on course for a 5-run win and keeping the Padres alive in the West.
However Misiorowski then fell apart, allowing 5 runs in 2.3 inning pitched (we score 1/3rd of an inning inning as 0.3 and 2/3rds as 0.7). In the 6th Mookie Betts hit is second homer of the game to mkae it 7-4 and the Brewers were on the verge of losing and falling to a wildcard and giving the Cubs the East title and bye.
However, Kirby Yates drew a PB9 and as a PB2-8, that gave Jackson Chourio the action on his own card with a 31-34 home run range, and the 32 random number was a homer. That started the game-winning rally. Rhys Hoskins walked and Isaac Collins came in as a pinch runner and stole second (going into the outfield and Jake Bauers moved to 1st base). Sal Frelick and Joey Ortiz hit back-to-back doubles, with Ortiz coming off ace reliever Tanner Scott off a PB11 that did not fall within his PB 2-9 range.
The Dodgers had their 8-7 lead after seven innings and eventually Trevor Megill had a 1-2-3 inning closing on two strikeouts for the Save.
The Dodgers improve to 26-16, and do not need to play their Arizona series since the 2nd place Padres are done at 26-22 so even if the Dodgers were swept twice by the Diamondbacks, since the Dodgers won the season series with the Padres 5 games to 1 so would have won a tie-breaker.
The Brewers finish 28-20, same as the Cubs, and the two tied there series 3 games each, but the next tie breaker is record at the end of divisional play, and the Brewers were 23-13 vs the Cubs 19-17 before interdivision started.
Both the Brewers and Dodgers therefore have our byes, and if the 8-7 Brewers win is a preview of our Statis-Pro NL championships it could be quite a Statis-Pro season.
As noted earlier the Phillies and Reds tied for the 6th and final spot at 25-23, so will play one more regular season game to determine who visits the 3-seed. The Cubs are the clear top wildcard seed and No. 3 overall seed with the 28-20 mark that only misses the division because of the Brewers tie-breaker.
The Padres 3-2 win over the Mets in Divisional play ends up being the tie-breaker as both finished 26-22, so all three games will be in San Diego.
