1990 Ball State Eliminates 2025 St. John's - 2 Elite 8 Spots Left

 As good as St. John's looked in so many aspects of the game last season, the inability to hit shots led tot their surprisingly sound defeat in a 2-seed vs. 10-seed game against Arkansas last year - and our Value Add Basketball Game was even more lopsided with the 1990 Ball State team that almost stunned UNLV easily defeating St. John's to become the 6th Elite 8 team in our tournament of new teams.

One reason we try to get every team to play at least one game after creation is in case a team performs much better or worse than expected, and St. John's did underperform in both games  - the narrow win over UAB and the blow out loss to Ball State. We did run through all the calculations again and did improve some of the offensive rebounding, steals and blocked shots that made them so tough to beat in many games last year - and the updated cards appear below and in the Value Add Basketball Game. Those updates should make their cards more realistic in future games - can their great results in those areas overcome their consistently poor shooting - however the margin was so wide that Ball State clearly was hot this game and would have one regardless, so they are in the Elite 8.
