Mariners Make Statis-Pro World Series 4 Days After Falling 8 Outs Short

Just four days after falling 8 outs short of making the actual MLB World Series, the Seattle Mariners made the World Series in our  free Statis-Pro baseball simulated season. After losing a 3-1 lead in a decisive Game 7 on a George Springer 3-run homer in the 7th in actual MLB play, the Mariners avoided going to a decisive Game 7 by wrapping up the Statis-Pro ALCS in six games against the Yankees.

This month shattered our July 2024 record with 195,616 unique views. Hey, we assume half are bots, but we thank all of you who are real viewers for checking in on our Statis-Pro simulations during what has been a very exciting real MLB season with the highest TV ratings in years.

The Mariners easily defeated the Detroit Tigers in five games in the previous series, while the Yankees had to survive a 7-game series against the Houston Astros, who in Statis-Pro unlike the actual MLB season had the services of Yordan Alvarez

Just a reminder, it is much more likely that baseball simulations are different from actual results since the better team in baseball barely wins half of playoff series, while more than 70% of NBA and NFL favorites win in playoff matchups.

The Mariners will need to wait a while for their second straight Statis-Pro World Series appearance since that while our AL Commissioner in Montana managed to find some free evenings to get through the AL playoffs, our NL Commissioner in Milwaukee hit a very tough work month in October and still needs to get all playoff games in. before a winner can be crowned. In the NL Statis-Pro regular season it was the two actual MLB final two teams - the LA Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers - who earned the byes, but in a season of parity the four wild card teams (Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, San Diego Padres and New York Mets) will hope to change the simulated NLCS. The only NL team to make the MLB playoffs but not the Statis-Pro playoffs was the Cincinnati Reds, who tied for the final Statis-Pro spot but lost a one-game playin game.

Here is the exciting breakdown of the last three AL playoff series. Shohei Ohtani did lead the Statis-Pro Dodgers to the best record in our simulations, likely because we allow injured players to play so the Dodgers played our entire season like they did once healthy in the NL playoffs.

Divisional Round (best of 7)

Seattle vs. Detroit After a tough five game battle in the Wild Card Round, the Seattle Mariners flexed their pitching muscles against the Detroit Tigers. Seattle won games by the scores of 2-1, 1-0, 2-0. George Kirby, Bryan Woo and Logan Gilbert were the winning pitchers in shutting down the Detroit offense. The Tigers did salvage one game before being eliminated four games to one.

Houston vs. New York This evenly matched series saw the first four games split. The highlight being game one when the Yankees had two outs in the bottom of the ninth trailing by two runs. With a man on first, the Yankees pounded three consecutive two-out hits to rally against the beleaguered Astros bullpen. It looked like the Yankees would take control in the pivotal game five. In the ninth inning of a 3-3 game, Aaron Judge singled and Cody Bellinger doubled to set up second-and-third with nobody out. But New York failed to score, and Houston made them pay in the 10th inning with back-to-back solo shots from Yordan Alvarez and Christian Walker. However, in the last two games of the series, it was the reigning Statis-Pro AL MVP who came through. Aaron Judge hit a 3-run homer to win game six and followed that with the game winning solo shot in game seven to win the deciding game 3-2.

Statis-Pro American League Championship Series Both of the Wild Card winners advanced to the ALCS. It was a wild start, with four lead changes in the final two innings of game one. The Yankees walked it off with Jazz Chisholm Jr's game winning double to win it 6-5. The teams split the first four games of the series making it a best of 3. In the pivotal game five, the Mariners erupted for a five-run second inning capped by Josh Naylor's 3-run blast. Carlos Rodon got roughed up to take the loss. That trend continued in game six when Max Fried only lasted four innings and gave up five runs (four earned). Jorge Polanco led the Mariners offense going 10-25 in the series with a homer, 3-doubles and 4 RBI's. Aaron Judge finished a disappointing 3-19 (six walks) and only drove in two runs. The Mariners make it two straight Statis-Pro pennants and await their NL foe for the 2025 Statis-Pro World Series.
