High Payroll Padres Can't Win in Statis-Pro Either - Alcantara Faces Fellow Dominican Tatis

After wrapping up the Dominican Republic's World Basic Classic Statis-Pro season with an incredible 1-hitter, Sandy Alcantara faced his leadoff hitter from that team - Fernando Tatis Jr. - to start the Marlins vs. Padres doubleheader.

He gave up only 1 earned run in 7.1 innings, but both he and Padres starter Yu Darvish (7 innings, 2 earned runs) were victimized by errors as the game was tied 4-4 going into the 9th. Josh Hader, with the most dominant pitching card in the Statis-Pro 2023 projected cards, then gave up another unearned run to allow a 5-4 Marlins win.

The first screen shot is the grid of games, where the Padres continue to struggle at 16-26 just as they are below .500 in the real game despite the third highest salary in baseball.

The second screen shot was the key point in the first game. Darvish was facing Bryan De La Cruz, left it on his hitting card, and then the RN 57 shown resulted in a home run since Padres pitchers and others who benefit from a pitchers park allows a Home Run on the lowest number in the batter's out range.

The third screen shot was the final at bat of the game. Marlins reliever Steven Okert has a + indicating we have increased his PB 2-7 to a PB 2-8 as one of the pitchers with the most improved ERA's this year. The Marlins led 8-3 after eight innings to wrap up a 3-game sweep credit unless they lost the actual game.  Xander Bogaerts and Jake Cronenworth led off with singles however, and after two strikeouts an two walks it was 8-4 and Tatis was at the plate with a chance for a grandslam HR and Okert reduced to a PB 4-7. However, Okert got the strikeout on another adjustment in this year's game - if a result of 77-84 appears on a pitcher's card then the result of an OUT is changed to a strikeout.

Padres lose another series, this one 5 games to 1 in the books - as reflected on the grid we keep on this sheet.
