We return our focus from baseball to basketball, with Caitlin Clark — who we rank as the 8th-best college basketball player of all time — making what may be the highest-IQ basketball play we have ever seen.
Facing a potential five-second call, Clark throws the ball in just hard enough for it to dribble backward nearly 80 feet past every defender, but just soft enough for a teammate to retrieve it and get it back to her. At that point, Clark drives and draws a triple-team, which she eludes with a behind-the-back pass.
Lexie Hull, in our game on the 2021 Stanford national champs, is the other big contributor in the video. She basically falls down running so hard when the pass goes past her, then reverses to run 80 feet to save the ball, then reverse again to dribble twice and pass to start the play in earnest.
