Marlins Confirm 1-0 Win Over Yankees

 Group A - Dodgers living up to their by far the best status.

Dodgers 2-0, 20-5 run differential

Nationals 0-1, 0-4 run differential

Athletics 0-1, 5-16 run differential

Group B - interesting we talked about was a shocker the Red Sox opening win was against the Braves, but when we looked at the ESPN preseason rankings they actually had the Red Sox above the Braves, so perhaps not so surprising they beat them using projected cards.

Red Sox 1-0, 8-1 runs

Rangers 0-0, 0-0 runs

Braves 0-1, 1-8

Group C - Likewise in ESPN preseason the Mets were 6th and the Yankees 3rd, so not a huge update, and of course the Marlins upset was big but they likewise eliminted the Mets last game of the season last year.

New York Mets 1-0 (scoring margin 6-3)

Miami Marlins 1-0 - (margin 1-0)

New York Yankees 0-2 (scoring margin 3-7)

Group D - Tampa was ranked No. 5 in MLB so no surprise to see them atop so far.

Tampa 1-0, runs 3-0

Cincinnati 1-1, runs 4-3

Houston 0-1, runs 0-4

Group C Update

The Yankees got a 2nd chance to avoid an 0-2 start in pool play when realized the Milwaukee rather than Miami pitching staff has been used against them in Cole's ultimate hard luck loss 1-0 on an unearned run.

Anazingly ...

arlins lefty ace Braxton Garrett repeated the shut out with the help of three actual relievers.

The Yankees only chance to adcance from the 3-team poll is now if the Marlins and Mets split their two games, and then the Yankees beat them both and win the tiebreaker by allowing the fewest runs in pool play. The Yankees get to go against both No. 4 pitchers since they faced both aces.

Shocker! Red Sox Bomb Sale and Braves 8-1

 

Chris Sale lasted only lasted 3 innings in a duel between 2 of the best Statis-pro pitching cards as the huge underdog Red Sox stunned the Braves.

Post script

The post above was the original June 7 post on iur shocking result of one of our first games with this seasons cards, causing some to wonder.

Not that the Red Sox have won 12 in a row to get above .500 a blow out win is much more logical.

Mcclanahan Shuts Down Reds 3-0 (7 IP, 1 hit, 15k); Rays Diaz and Simpson HR

 The Rays win rheir forst of 4 pool games so standingd are:

Tampa 1-0, runs 3-0

Cincinnati 1-1, runs 4-3

Houston 0-1, runs 0-4

The winner of all 9 3-team pools advance to one of thres semifinal 3-team pods, then those 3 to the Championship 3-team pod. 4-game record tie-breakers are head to head, runs allowed then run dofferential.

The Reds lost two players to injuries who will have to miss the second game if the series as well. Tyler Stephenson was hit by a foul tip, while Dane Myers ran into the wall in an inside the park homer by Candler Simpson. Yandy Diaz hit a solo homer.

De La Cruz, Burns Give Reds 4-0 Opening Win Over Astros

Elly De La Cruz generated the only run of the first six innings when he walked, stole,.and then adcanced on two grounders including beating a throw home by Jeremy Pena. He then broke the game open with a 2-out rbi single to start a rally that gave the Reds a 4-0 win over the Astros to open Statis-Pro pool play.

Chase Brown won the battle of aces with six scoreless innings with 6 baserunners and 9 strikeouts. The normally shaky bullpen made it hold up, though Jake Meyers 2nd hit of the game and Yordan Alvarez hit by pitch out the tying run on deck with no outs before Jose Altuve's popout and Yainer Diaz double play grounder ended the game.

Ke'Bryan Hayes had 3 if the Reds 9 hits though Astros Hunter Brown was the hard luck loser as he trailed only 1-0 with 2 outs in the 7th before De La Cruz's RBI single chased him.

The Reds now play the pool favored Tampa Bay Rays with their other strong pitcher Hunter Greene to face Rays ace Shane McClanahan - a lefty who will face Dave Myers instead of Friedl.

Pregame

We plan to finally play only our 4th Statis-Pro game of the season tonight. 

Dominant Reds pitcher Chase Burns (top left) projected as a good pb 2-7 card but no where near as dominant as the pb 2-9 he would be if we made his card based on this season. But he only allows hits on 11-21 (range goes to 88).

The Astros Yordan Alvarez is thinking MVP and triple crown in the real season, and is an almost as good 28-35 home run range. In Cincy, his deep drives on 36-38 will go out if the park on a subsequent 11-53.

Astros ace Hunter Brown, actually just recovering from an injury,  is slightly better at pb 2-8 but gives up more hits as 11-23. 

Elly De La Cruz isnt near Alvarez in OPS (0.807 to 0.954) but his elite A-AA speed and top defensive rating for a shortstop (E2, CD5) may make him as valuable as the slow DH Alvarez (E-D).
