Pool E - Toronto, San Fran and Milwaukee all 1-1

Pool E Play

1. Toronto – 1-1, +6 run differential

2. San Francisco – 1-1, -1 run differential

3. Milwaukee – 1-1, -5 run differential

In the fifth of our nine three-team pools, each team has beaten one opponent, so all three teams are 1-1 and still have one game remaining against each opponent. Keep in mind that each team has already used its top two starting pitchers, and offense has been scarce. Milwaukee is batting .226, Toronto .194, and San Francisco .145. Five of the six starting pitchers used so far have been above the PB 4-7 average card (two PB 2-9s, placing them among the top 5% of all pitchers; one PB 2-8, top 15%; two PB 2-7s, top 35%; and one PB 4-7, representing the middle 30% of all pitchers).

The remaining games feature only two above-average starting pitchers. The defending AL champion Blue Jays still have two PB 2-7 starters available, while the Giants have two average PB 4-7 starters, and the Brewers have two below-average PB 2-6 starters. However, the Giants' bullpen is in the weakest position because, while their closer (PB 2-9) is still available for both remaining games, their No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 relievers have already pitched against both opponents and therefore are unavailable for the second game against each team. Under our rules, teams use a four-man rotation, each two-game matchup is treated as a two-game series, and each reliever may pitch in only one of those two games.

Below are the statistics from the first two games played by each team, along with mini box scores or pitching lines and game notes. Photos of the scoresheets from all three games appear at the bottom of this post. Only the winner of each three-team pool advances to one of the three semifinal pools, with those three semifinal winners then advancing to the championship pool.
