Kadary Richmond's Game-Winner Leads SJU past 1982 UAB, 80-78.

Kadary Richmond drove to the hoop for a game-winning buzzer beater to make St. John's (2025) the 4th Sweet 16 team in our current tournament of mainly new teams from either 2025 or the past. St. John's fell behind after RJ Luis fouled guarding UAB 1982 Chris Giles - however despite drawing all the fouls Giles only made 4 of 10 free throws, though his bucket had tied the game 78-78.

However, the star of the game in a losing effort was UAB's Oliver Robinson, who stole the ball on three of St. John's first five possessions and finished with 28 points and 7 steals. Robinson famously outscored Ralph Sampson to stun the University of Virginia in the 1982 Elite 8.
